Hi Peter, nice collection of these Earlies. Did you find out why some are stamped red and others black. I wonder since i recieved my first red one.

Not trying to hurt your thread, just genuinely curious... What makes these so much more expensive than other 80's wound SD's? I know double creams bring a little more than other colors, but I've never seen sets going for much more than $200 or so used. I know it took me forever to sell some early 80's MJ wound stuff for regular $50 prices.

No idea on the stamps... I imagine in the early days it was whatever flavor of the week.

Lucid... these are very early and rare examples... there are a whole bunch of JBJ and DDJ's out there. Supply and demand! Players will pay a whole lot for the latest "winder of the week" boutique pickups... why not own the children of the master himself with real vintage mojo?

Great info Ed... I will keep that list on hand!
No mention of Brian Burmingham... I think that was his name? I have a heavily overwound Broadcaster Bridge that he did about 25 years ago... smoookin pickup!

I would love clarification, but I would assume the earliest ones with no winder designation were done by Seymour.
