FTL Drive Demo video up on Ye Olde Tube

Re: FTL Drive Demo video up on Ye Olde Tube

I've decided not get any od/dist pedals till I mod/fine tune my amp. But this one will definitely be on my mind. It has that "wicked sensation" vibe that tend to go by these days on a few settings.

OK - I'm in - the BMP tone with Scoop control does it for me. My biggest regret was selling my all-purple ram's-head, and no TubeScreamer or clone has come close - until I heard your pedal on the video. Fat, fat, fat.

The clipping options are the icing on the cake - just waiting for some dosh to go IN to my PayPal account, and the money will be on it's way. A Canadian pedal..... cool. A Gallactica pedal..... double cool. Maybe it should have a "Spool Up" switch and a Tylium control, or a jump switch. Be in touch soon as - though I am unhappy about lead-free man - I have soldered with lead for forty odd years now, and it has done me..... no..... what was I saying? Who? Where am I

I like this man! I actually wanted to do the EXACT same thing a while ago to finally figure out my perfect tubescreamer pedal but meanwhile I got about three that do the job just fine :P
That youtube video also allows for better distinction between all the sounds than usual, I liked it. Sounds good! If I had the cash I think I'd go for one actually.

Odd question, Ratherdashing...

How did you get into pedal building? Are you into electronics as a career or merely a hobbyist? How would one make a start building their own pedals?

I'm not looking to build anything as advanced as yours but it might be fun to build a small pedal of some kind.

I have been interested in electronics from a young age, and took a class in high school on basic electronics. Recently I decided to try modding pedals because I wasn't 100% satisfied with them, starting with my Blues Driver. I was really impressed with the results, and modded some pedals for friends. It naturally progressed into me building a pedal for myself. It's a pretty addictive hobby. I'm already thinking about my next design.

Pedals are a great way to get into electronics. They are simple circuits that aren't difficult to understand, and the reward for your work is sweet tone! :)

Re: FTL Drive Demo video up on Ye Olde Tube

Were you using any noise suppression between licks or is the pedal really that quiet?
It's very impressive! The only thing the demo lacked was alternate volume/gain settings.

Tonight is the first time I looked at this thread. I am definitely interested in getting in on the first production run!

the issue is that the majority of the time...they don't go much beyond simple circuits.

That is the raw audio from the SM57 on my cab.

I set out with the goal of building a quiet pedal, and I think I achieved it. I did this by using the best quality components available: a high end op amp, high gain MPSA18 transistors, metal film resistors wherever possible, and film capacitors wherever possible. Most big name pedal manufacturers use cheap components to keep their costs down. I just wanted a really quiet pedal whatever it cost.

The production run pedals will have all the same (or better) components as the prototype.

That's cool, Matt. I think you're on the right path!

little late to the game here, but wow - lotsa options on that pedal; must be hundreds of sounds available with all the switches and such. sounds good to me.
