Full Shred bridge with an oversized Ceramic?

I just tore a dead SH-6 apart (steel wool in the coils, completely dead) for the magnet.

I'm planning on picking up a set of SH-10s for my S and I'm admittedly quite curious as to what the big Ceramic would do to the Full Shred bridge. I'm imagining a bit more top, a little less mids, and a bigger bottom - that sound about right?

Re: Full Shred bridge with an oversized Ceramic?

You're basically creating a Dimarzio Super Distortion:-)

Only if your comparing the dc resistance and the general look of the poles... otherwise it would still be pretty different. Importantly the pole length is different between the super d and FS...

For the OP in my experience the fat ceramics have more mids and a touch less top than a normal ceramic...

Full Shred bridge with an oversized Ceramic?

I would believe that you would get a tighter sounding Distortion pickup.

IIRC, the Dist already comes with the big ceramic bar. It won't get "tighter" from replacing the mag with the same mag.

But the hex heads would tighten it up

Re: Full Shred bridge with an oversized Ceramic?

The big mag will be noticeably louder and "bigger" vs a normal sized ceramic mag, way more low mids than with the stock A5. Yes, it will still be exceptionally tight, but it will be huge for chugga-chugga.

And yes, the FS is essentially a double screw C5 with hexes.

Oh, I'm totally doing that then. Am I gonna need to flip the spacers too when I do the mag swap?

Re: Full Shred bridge with an oversized Ceramic?

You can do that most of the time, I have run across spacers that weren't exactly the correct height flipped vertically. If you still have the DD parts you should be able to use the spacers from it. Depending on it's age it could have two plastic spacers glued together or a single maple spacer flipped on it's side.

Except the FS sounds and feels like it has more mids than the C5. At least from my experience.

Re: Full Shred bridge with an oversized Ceramic?

The higher resonant peak of the Custom wind, combined with dual hex pieces and a big ceramic is probably going to give some sick harmonics.
