Full Shred compare, contrast to Custom, Distortion

Looking for comparison and contrast of the Full Shred bridge SH-10 or TB-10 vs the Custom and or the Distortion. What are your experiences with them?

Also, looks like all the FS polepieces are fairly short and do not go very far through the baseplate. Anybody tried shorter polepieces in a Custom or Custom 5?

Third time's the charm, right?

Re: Full Shred compare, contrast to Custom, Distortion

The Full Shred for both positions are my favorite passive pickups. I'm a big fan of high gain pickups and I mainly use the new active Duncan "Blackouts" but I love the tone of passives more for cleans and solos. I first tried the Custom which was really good but compared to my Carvin C22B pup which is also one of the best passive pups I've ever heard, it sounded a bit compressed and a tad too bright. I next tried the Distortion model, the lows were tighter than the Custom with a slightly more aggressive tone but once again, more compressed sounding than the Carvin C22B and the Custom model.

I realized that what I wanted in a passive pup was a pup with a great high end but with much less compression than the Custom or Distortion while still retaining some power. The Full Shred did the job with flying colors even though it's not as high in output as the Distortion model. It was already my favorite neck pup and now in the bridge. With the gain dimed on my preamp, this pup sounds just as heavy as anything you've ever heard but with tons of clarity and definition.

Try it and you'll love it!!!
