jazz in neck
have one right now in my Ibanez.
i use it mainly for the cleans and as for the gain part, i strongly believe that my processor will compensate for the jazz's ability for lots of mids and power for metal/shred leads.

Re: Full Shred Vs, Jb, 59', Jazz

Hi Guys: So would I like a jazz neck even if one of the styles I play is heavy blues? I keep hearing what a cool versatile pick up the jazz neck is. I just want some honest opinions and/or encouragement that this pickup will be suitable for multiple styles. I know this is in large part personal taste in tone but let me hear from some jazz neck users out there who play many styles and still like this pickup. I want a neck pickup that is great for many styles and can still give me that sweet woman blues tone kind of like Jimi Hendrix Redhouse if you know what I mean. Thanks dudes!

Re: Full Shred Vs, Jb, 59', Jazz

The full shred neck is pretty sick. You can't hide behind it like other pickups.
You can, pretty much, hear all the picking dynamics, naunces, etcetera - even under the highest gain.
The cleans are very glassy, almost like a strat. It's not nice and warm like the Jazz or the '59.
I use it with a flipped dimebucker, and it seems to go with that really well.

I have it in my SGs, and Flying Vs.

My tone is pretty modern sounding, so I'm pretty sure the Full Shred won't sound that if you try to play blues or jazz with it.

+1
Full Shred in the neck is the ultimate. Jimmy said it beautifully. The Jazz is cool too but IMO the FS is THE pup here for all the reasons Jimmy's stated.

I LOVE my full shred... i wont take it out in order to install my 81 in the bridge either. Definately my favorite neck pickup.

Re: Full Shred Vs, Jb, 59', Jazz

Haven't tried the jazz, but have heard good things.
I voted '59. In my les paul, this is the ultimate neck pickup.
beautiful smooth "woman" tone when picked moderately, gets nasty when you dig in. At any gain level.

Re: Full Shred Vs, Jb, 59', Jazz

For soloing on the neck pickup when you're playing rock, I love the Full Shred neck. An old S. Duncan flyer described it as having a "flutey" sound, and it definitely does. If you guys remember some of the neck position solo tones on Iron Maiden tunes, it's that sound.

I've get a couple of guitars with Full Shreds in the neck and bridge and they actually sound really sweet in the middle pos with both pickups on. A great sound for clean rhythm parts.

For blues, I don't think you can go wrong with a 59 neck if you want a warmer sound or a Jazz neck if you wanted a bright stinging ES335 tone.

Re: Full Shred Vs, Jb, 59', Jazz

I did n't vote since I'm only familiar with the Jazz. It certainly has
good cleans, but for a bluesier tone, I really like its split sound. A
very nice fake strat neck vibe, not for surf or country, but Hendrix
or even Scott Henderson, I'm happy with it.

But I'm awful interested in the Shred neck. Does it come in 7 string
or split well?

Toss up between a jazz and a fulll shred. Both are outstanding pickups...I tend to like the jazz a little bit more for cleans cause its a tad warmer...and I tend to like the full shred a little bit more for leads due to its "vocal" quality.
