FullShred mag swapp

I have a neck FullShred in a basswood - maple neck guitar which sounds nice, almost too bright but very articulated. I can't say I love it but I dig it enough to keep it there.

I had a Slash Pro in other guitar's neck position and it had a lovely bluesy vibe, but it's too dark for me.

If I swapp the A5 in the FS for the A2, will that give me a bluesy-but-still articulated neck pup? Thanks!

Re: FullShred mag swapp

The Full Shred is very close (if not identical) to a Custom wind with hex poles. Sticking an A2 in there would give you a Custom Custom with less and tighter bass response. Don't know how it will affect the other frequencies exactly to be honest, but I guess it will be perceived as brighter for sure. Sure sounds interesting though.

Re: FullShred mag swapp

I will have to find out. Wanna try it splitted and/or in parallel as well. First with A5 and then with A2. Guess I will get some insteresting results as you said. Thanks man.

The Full Shred Bridge is the same wind as the Custom Series. But just to clarify the Full Shred Neck that the OP is talking about is similar in spec to the Jazz Neck, not the Custom Series. And to add to that, the Alnico II Pro and Jazz are the same wind, just different mags. This was confirmed by either Frank Falbo or Evan Skopp, can't remember which. So with that in mind switching the FSn A5 to A2 in theory would be like having an Alnico II Pro with a double row of hex poles....sounds interesting. Let us know how that sounds!

I bet the Fullshred alnico 2 would sound.... amazing. Less harsh, sweeter but with the same clarity and articulation of the fullshred. bass a bit less boomy and the highs just sweeter. mids a bit more rude. yeah I think it could work. It would work tremendously well.

Re: FullShred mag swapp

Maybe instead of swapping the mags just try swapping the pups from guitar to guitar...

Alnico II Pro is waiting for a re-pot (and as I said, I find it too dark) :P

Did it! It still has that FS character, but it sounds more 'lively' and bluesy now. Not a blues pickup, but at least is not as sterile as it was before. I am very satisfied!

You were right. As I said, still a FS but with a different response.

Thank you all!

Right. I missed the neck portion of the message. A2Pro with hex poles sure sounds interesting.

Yep. And it's interesting how sterile my guitar itself is. ZERO soul, mojo, whatever. I guess it will break up in a while, I hope so.. But that's another thing. A2 + Full Shred = win.
