Fulltone 70 or RM Axis Fuzz for late Hendrix tones

Alright, like I don't already have enough fuzz pedals huh ? Well I need one more and need your help.

I've got the Little Big Muff for those thick Muff tones

I've got the Fuzz Factory for crazy noises and such (not a fan of it for traditional fuzz tones though)

I've got the Keeley FuzzHead which is great for some lighter blues type stuff and for a cool cutting OD/Fuzz tone with higher gain applications

And lastly I've got the Crucible Ge fuzz which is a great classic germainium fuzz face type sound.

So whats missing ? That more aggressive silicon fuzz tone ala later Hendrix, such as BOG or my favorite, Berkley. That agressive over the top pissed off tone of tracks like I Dont Live Today

From what I've been able to gather, the Roger Mayer Axis fuzz or the Fulltone 70 both sound like they'd be good choices.

RM of course was the man who was responsible for those fuzzboxes and tones of that era. How close the Axis comes I can't say as I haven't played one but it does sound to me pretty agressive and cutting

The Fulltone 70 is marketed as the BOG tones as well, plus its about $75 cheaper which is also nice.

Anyone have experience with either or ideally both that can point me in the right direction ?

I used to have a 20th Ann RM Axis...KILLER BOG type fuzz tones if you know how to use it, built like a tank and looks cool as hell, whatmore could you want?!

I never compared it head to head with a FT 70's but I did try the 70 and to be hoenst was no impressed...

What were the main things you didn't like about the 70 ? (hard question to answer I know as sometimes its hard to put a finger on it)

I really can't find much in the way of clips of the 70 and the ones I did find weren't really in the style I'm after. I'd like to hear some Spanish Castle Magic with one for example or maybe Bold As Love.

I just mainly like that the 70 is cheaper, easer to find in stock and has more controls over the Axis, plus the blue would look nice next to my RMC3 Wah lol

Forgot to mention on the subject of wah, how did the 70 work with a wah in front ? I read you can't get very good results like that.

I always like the wah first in the chain though so I don't know if thats a dealbreaker or not. My Teese has the FoxRox buffer though so it works fine with my other wahs but I don't know if the 70 is different for some reason ?

Unfortunately it's sold out, but I've heard some really good things about the FoxRox Hot Silicon. I think I'd like to get him to build me a Fuzz Card of it for the CC2.

Re: Fulltone 70 or RM Axis Fuzz for late Hendrix tones

Im just not really a fan of Fulltone stuff in general...some of it's cool but mot of the time it just doesn't do it for me, as for the 70 it just didn;t capture the silicon FF tone to me...the Axis is a much cooler sounding pedal IMO, however it is a tad harder to control...the Axis is a BEAST!

ON the wah issue, it NEVER hasd ANYTHING to sdo with the fuzz, always the wah...if you have a Teese wah with a buffer you're fine...

Re: Fulltone 70 or RM Axis Fuzz for late Hendrix tones

Well I'm sold on the Axis Fuzz then, thanks for the advice and insights.

I know what you mean with Fulltone stuff by the way, its not that its bad quality or anything but it just seems to miss the vibe some other guys seem to capture with their products. Its almost too high end and perfect or something and as a result that sounds less that stellar musically.
