Fulltone FD2 vs. OCD

Re: Fulltone FD2 vs. OCD

They are soooooo f----n' different.

One is like a TS9 tube screamer kinda vibe = FD2. It has a comp cut mode which can be a tad noisy but it's soooo good for a clean boost. Great with any amp - adds wicked harmonics.

The OCD is literally like getting an old Marshall in a box. It only works well with CERTAIN amps - it's crap on some and amazing on others - so be careful.

Both are quite volume and touch sensitive.

Would you say that the clips on the Bogner site do the amp justice or even sound ideal to you? To me, the XTC's sound too compressed and unlively. Although, I have heard some clips of the blue channel that have awed me...
Lots of mixed reviews on the 101 as well... :(

The thing about those clips is they're done by guys who are trying to show you how much gain the amp has, so they dial it to their liking. And, who knows what pickups they're using? Those amps are like EL-34 modeling clay....you can get what you want out of each channel. Also, it's hard to capture how good it sounds by putting a 57 in front of a speaker. You really notice the tone when standing in front of it. As for the reviews, most of them on harmony are 10s.
The problem with highdollar amps is that many of the guys critiquing them are rich-boy non-players who own a different amp every month, so they'll hear the Bogner on 1, played in front of their fireplace for a few weeks, say it sucks, then buy a Fargen, then a Komet, then a Diezel. So you're listening to a critique by a guy playing a few blues licks at night before going to his law firm the next morning. :6: :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

Re: Fulltone FD2 vs. OCD

I've gigged a ton with the OCD and the FD2

Which Budda model and what tone are you going for?

I think the OCD would work with a Budda, but it might be a touch grainy in HP mode compared to the Buddas own distortion. The LP tone would be pretty creamy in there. The FD2 can be noisy, esp in Comp Cut mode, though it would be a nice boost to get a vintage, cranked grit thru a SuperDr 30

A SuperDrive 18. Something to take the sound up a notch when I'm playing a song with a little bit heavier feel, tending more towards a modern sound than a vintage sound.

Thought I'd ressurect this thread, because I was gonna start the same one at one point...

If I wanted that Marshall-in-a-box type thing, but I'm a single-coil guy, will the OCD do it for me? Or is the FDII still the best bet? Thanks!
