So I received my Fulldrive yesterday. I spent a few hours with it. First off, there is nothing you can say bad about the pedal. It sounds fantastic! Right out of the box I played it with the two recommended settings in the manual. Clean and rock.
I put it through a Koch Twintone [an original Twintone from 03]. In case you don't know, Twintone has a pristine clean channel very much like a Fender. Respectable touch sensitivity and dynamics, but just short of say a Divided by 13 amp. The second channel is gain. Around 9:00 is one of those mild breakup tones like on Fender or old Marshall.
So on the clean channel the overdriven sounds were amazing. Sounds very natural. Not gritty but kind of smooth. The clean boost is super. You can really control the overdrive to a fine degree. The tone knob is responsive. Does not take away from bass or mids but adds presence.
I particularly like the vintage+mosfet setting with overdrive gain full and boost off. My other favorite is vintage+standard with the overdrive on 12:00 and boost at 9:00.
What amazed me the most is how much like an Eric Johnson tones I can get with the mosfet+vintage. The pedal is awesome!
So on the amp dirty channel with overdrive at 10:00, the the fulltone w flat mids+mosfet with gain at 12:00, I got some rippin 80's metal tones. Easy to get AC/DC to Van Halen sounds.
Pushing the gain all the way up with the same amp overdrive settings ended up sounding a lot like Malmsteen tone. This is not what I expected but a good sound indeed. I don't like compression so this was somewhat disappointing - HOWEVER, it is a useable tone! I think I just need more time tweaking it.
Overall the 161.00 spent was well worth the money. It is smooth. Not quite like a TS808, but the mosfet makes it a little raspier. I think it's ultimately going to be more useful for clean boost and mild overdrive. The 808 is still the hard rockin king!
