It is calling playing out of the root.....I know what to play "correctly".
But it is so boring sounding safe you know :burnout:

yeah, trying to stay out of the box rocks!! :cool3:

Re: Fusion clip

Great tone ! And your Phrasing is Perfect :cool3: Being able to play
something againist the grain and pull it back again is what Fusion is
all about IMHO. :)

Re: Fusion clip

Thanks KMC....hehe yeah I was raised on such stuff, we had a big fusionthing going on back in the 80's, I digged VH and such back then, but we could only play Fusion/funky stuff and get away with some wailing guitars back then.

Re: Fusion clip

I'll admit, fusion goes right over my head. But I thought your playing and tone were great there Rid. What kind of guitar, pickups and amp were you using there? Very nice!

Re: Fusion clip

Rid great playing. Unfortunately I've never been a fan of fusion, great playing, great tone.

Re: Fusion clip

Thanks guys...hehe yeah I had the feeling of this :laugh2:
Well I used my Kramer Pacer Deluxe 87/88.
With APS-1's and a hybrid bridge pickup made from a 59n slugcoil and and the screwcoil from a Screamin' Demon.
The amp is a Bassman 100 silverface, the cab is a Peavey 4x12 with Jensen equipped speakers.
Overdrive is a Carl Martin Plexitone.

Re: Fusion clip

Hey Rid, how do you like that Plexi Tone pedal? It sure sounded nice at this end. Do you find the name "Plexi Tone" to be an appropriate one?

Re: Fusion clip

Hehe well since I am the one who made it......
The name was one my Boss came up with, the org name I used was Duplexer.
It follows the amp you use....but it has plenty of bite if needed.

Re: Fusion clip

rid!! .. smokin .. i LOVE fusion even though it gets a bad name (for some reason) .. i like your phrasing and tone alot ... you capture the motion of the backing chords without being a slave to the changes ... very cool

i think Rid and Marin should do a European tour together .. 1 set from rid, 1 set from marin, then a set together ... i would be ALL OVER bootlegs :D ... then when they get a following , they can come do a US tour :D

nice work!!

cheers

Re: Fusion clip

Thanks tone4days...hehe yeah I actually blend all the things together, but I try to use the blues as much as I can....relate most to that, since I grew up with Carlton, Robben Ford, Huff, Landau, Van Halen, Hockensmith, Dean Parks, Lee Ritenour and many more, they often use the blues alot in their playing.

Haha well we can always dream :saeek: :burnout: :19: :knockedou
But then we should all do a big one with all those forum members here :burnout: :cool3:

Re: Fusion clip

Rid,

Nice job on the playing. I really enjoy fusion and this was very cool. I'm not that big a fan of the particular tone you went with... I tend to gravitate more towards a slightly warmer tone for the fusion stuff... not so much more bass, but a tad more mids. For reference, I dig dudes like Brett Garsed, TJ Helmerich, Shawn Lane (RIP), Greg Howe, Frank Gambale and the ocassional Holdsworth tune. Of course, there's always old school DiMeola as well. Just snagged another classic of his, "Land Of the Midnight Sun".

Anyway... thanks again for sharing this tune. Truly great!

Later,
Jeff

Re: Fusion clip

I thought that was cool! Sounded like some older fusion by the likes of Bill COnners or Larry Coryell! Nice work, and nice tone.

Re: Fusion clip

Loved it, great tone and playing. The thing about fusion, you either get it or you don't. This was really cool!
