Fusion-like improvisation clip

hey guys :)

i found an older recording i thought i dumped away, but now that i found it i thought i'd share :D

i took the backing off a Frank Gambale song, and messed around with it abit.
if anyone wants i have recently made a MIDI version with a similar progression, so maybe i could upload it somewhere and have it as a backing track.
i do alot of MIDI conjuration using Band-In-A-Box 2004, i recommend it to anyone in the improvisation buisness, especially in Fusion, Jazz and Blues.

the recording was done using my trusty old Jackson Kelly, and using the 81 bridge on it, i think the sound in the clip will also prove the excellent qualities the 81 has as a lead pickup (in low to mid gain settings too), and not only for drop-tuned riffing as it is nowadays stereotyped.
i used a POD 2.3 direct to my computers crappy soundcard so its not as high-quality as i'd want, but it'll have to do. :22:

i'd be glad to receive all reviews, especially constructive ones. there is always room to get better y'know :D

you can download the song from this site:
http://www.digitalsoundplanet.com/VirtualStudios/Listen/detail.php?eltid=19113
download it by pressing the little speaker icon, if it does not work, try right clicking the speaker and using "save target as" or, if you got a player that is built in explorer, "open in new window"

Cheers

Re: Fusion-like improvisation clip

you have a pretty flawless technique man!

i dont know why people complain about line 6, if you hadn't said it was line 6 nobody would have known - the tone is really nice

really tastefull playing, that lick at 50 something is insane!

you're gonna end up making a lotta money outa music man - i wanna hear that new ibie of yours though!

Re: Fusion-like improvisation clip

hey bro,

thanks alot, i realy apreciate it! :cool3:
technique was never realy my problem, so im now focusing more on musicality, phrasing and a crap load of music theory :)

about people complaining about Line6. there are several "types".
there are the guys who dont like it because they know there are no tubes in their products, some are plain perfectionists.
alot of guys just dont have the capability to tweak the stuff to get a proper tone (factory setting patches are utter crap).
and some just dont like the tone. i can understand it all realy, but considering im not a billionare at my age, i settled for a type of rig that allowed me to get the tones i want without having to pay $$$ for a Bogner :laugh2:

the lick at 0:48 is a chromatic-pentatonic little thing going to a Am 5 string sweep with a legato-ish trill at the top.

i hope i make it in the buisness but for now im just doing it for plain fun, we all know guitar is the best thing in the world.

thanks again for posting.

Re: Fusion-like improvisation clip

and you're 15?? jesus i suck >.<

i'm with lee now.. you peopkle should be banned for showing off

that line 6 thing is a rack you're using? or the normal one .. the tiny funny thing =P

Re: Fusion-like improvisation clip

That's all we need - another smartass kid playing the frets offf the darned thing.

I give up.

Re: Fusion-like improvisation clip

Very nice! I like the tune a lot. Very reminiscent of Gambale, of course.

The only criticism I have, and it's more a matter of personal choice, probably, is that you can fly with ascending runs, and then they seem to stop and stutter. I would've like to have heard a couple of runs that ascend and descend at equal speed.

I'm really impressed!!

Re: Fusion-like improvisation clip

thanks twilight i'll keep that in mind, i'll try to work on it.
glad you liked it.

Re: Fusion-like improvisation clip

It was a complement actually. It must that Brit humour that does it.

Re: Fusion-like improvisation clip

Lee was complementing you acutally. If he used a GIF, it would've been someone shaking their head, like "yeesh ... these kids with their speed!"

Re: Fusion-like improvisation clip

I've never insulted anyone in this room. We want posters of clips - putting them off wouldn't help the cause.

Re: Fusion-like improvisation clip

omg im realy realy sorry Lee
i take it all back and i will now go to smack myself :)

i misunderstood your remark. text does not have a tone of voice, so you cant realy always tell in what way something is said...
so again, i hope you will accept my appoligy :-/

Re: Fusion-like improvisation clip

Hey, "shreddin in the Holy Land"!

that was very nice ... "naim m'od"! :)

I haven't listened to your playing in quite a while.

I like the fact that you maintained your articulation, and kept in the groove! I feel your technical chops only compliment your phrasing, and don't detract from the musicality and feel.
Sometimes my knock against shredding is that the phrases get too long, as if it's a technical thing, and the player should come up for air! It wears me down.

I don't feel that way about that clip, though. Your combination of 'tension and release' keeps things interesting, and the slower and faster notes gain by contrast.

I have a question: do you manage to play out? I'm just curious about gigs in the land.

Shalom

Shalom Dim-7th!

Most outstanding work my friend. Very nice piece. The tone was outstanding and the playing matched. Great work and keep posting.

Mazel Tov!

Re: Fusion-like improvisation clip

hahah shalom tonebro's ;)

shredding in the holy land has never been better, thanks for asking :D :D
curly-
"naim m'eod" is like when you meet someone and you say "nice to meet you" you'd want to say "tov m'eod" that would be very good/nice ;)
on a more serious note,
i understand what you're saying, the whole thing im practicing on right now is having the ability to put my thoughts and feelings in my playing, but still using technique to add an effect to the playing, and give it "ups and downs", i tried to apply several scales and various chromatics to expand the vocabulary and contour and use different rhythmic patterns, except in the run-like parts.
about gigging, you can gig if you try hard enough. im going to play at a guitar show on the 31st ;)

thanks, RGN - keep it kosher! LOL :D

Dim,
yeah, you're right, my Ivrit is outta practice .... I shoulda said "yofi meod", but that could be wrong, too

anyway, you did a great job of switching up scales to add interest, without it sounding mechanical.

As I said in the PM - no problems - not offended. Welcome to the forum.

However, showing off will get you banned. (J/K)
