Fusionesque and upbeat song, «SSF2»
Well, as some of you may know, the last three years I've been playing in a band where we are supporting a choir. We've played a lot of funky gospel music (believe it or not
), but also a great deal of pop and rock music as well.
As a result, the band itself has never been much in the focus, but for our two main concerts throughout the year (one Christmas concert, and one concert held on our national day, 17th of May), we always play one song where we can display ourselves, so to say.
The 17th of May last year, we chose a song called SSF2, played live at the Baked Potato, by Greg Mathieson (keys), Abraham Laboriel (bass), Vinnie Colaiuta (drums) and Mike Landau (git).
Not the easiest task, in other words! But really, really fun...! We decided we wanted to record it, to have something to remember ourselves for, a "trophy" or something I guess (I'm not finding the correct term).. Well, we found a guy who could pull off the recording and the mixing part, so this is what we recorded last summer. However, both guitarists and the keysplayer have re-recorded the solos as we weren't completely satisfied. I think it's a little better now.
There's a lot of mistakes here and there, but we don't want to spend too much time doing this stuff. My part when I come in on the verse is terrible though (at 0:48) :laugh2:. My eyeballs turn inwards in disgust, I will see if our recording guy can erase it or something. Also, I'm having a few bad bends there and stuff, but I will just let that roll for now..
Anyhow, here it is: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=653154 (top of the list).
My git stuff is slightly more to the left channel, the other guitarist in the right speaker. My solo starts at 3.22: guess which pickup I'm using?
What's funny about the solo, is that it is originally a keys solo by Greg, but we've adopted it to the guitars, I have only made minor changes.
By the way, it's not the final mastering of the recording, so tips to levels and such is much appreciated!
