Fuzz Pedal Combined With Gate Pedal For Stutter Effect

Zvex Mastotron and some other Fuzz Pedals have "Gate" knob. On Mastotron it's "Relax/Push".

Gate is an effect which kills the noise below a specified threshold. Noise fluctuation around the threshold causes stutter type sound.

I love this type on effect on Mastotron but to be honest I don't like the Fuzz Tone of it.

Can any Fuzz Pedal which combined with a Gate Pedal create this effect successfully?
(Theoretically it seems so.)

I have a really old Boss NF-1 Noise Gate which can be set this way, so I can use it with any fuzz or distortion.
