G.A.S. sins... greed

Some one put a very interesting aand ilustrative thread called "the ultimate few pedals ....something..." putting enfacis in the economy of those little bugs (the less the better I agree and my guitar heroes agree too).

Now we are going into a diferent thread, not ilustrative just for fun.
What are those pices of gear (pedals mostly but also amps or guitars etc..) you buy just because?
What are those pieces of gear you dont know how ended in your house?
What are those pieces of gear you WASTED MONEY in?

regret, confessions, this is the thread in were we all said Mr hendrix Ive sined.
greed (codicia) is one of the capital sins by the way.

I admit I had a danelectro flanger, I didnt used it, I just put it in my pedal chain because it looks "vintage", and of course most of you have a Wha just because

Re: G.A.S. sins... greed

I bought a Randall RG halfstack just because... thankfully made my money back. I bought a washburn on total impulse and regretted it so bad! I never played it and I ended up losing big time when I ebayed it.

Re: G.A.S. sins... greed

I bought my LP Studio just because somehow I had to have a Gibson Les Paul (wasn't my first one either), although I knew in advance that my Burny would beat the honk out of the new kid on the block. Luckily I got a nice one with one-piece back etc that somebody next in the chain liked, so no harm done except for shipping risk.

I kept buying Ibanez Blazer and Roadstar parts and whole guitars not paying enough attention to parts interchangeability. Finally got rid of the loners and stopped doing that. It's new-headstock 21 fretters now.

I have - how many Duncan '59 and APS-1s? I don't even have a real Strat and all my Pauls carry A2 pickups.

Re: G.A.S. sins... greed

Guilty!

I buy and hoard guitars so others can't have them......and can't "relic" them!
I have a drawer full of my favorite pickups, just incase!
I have several spare Celestions of different flavors, just incase!
For 18 years I used an ADA MP-1, over the years I bought 5 spares, just incase!

If I find a deal too good to pass up, I'll probably buy it, I like having a back-up to my back-up........

;)

Re: G.A.S. sins... greed

Everything I've purchased I've really wanted at the time (and for the most part, now). I guess I have that funky Dano Flanger with all the wierd paint, but I bought it off a forum for $25, and it's feedback is just wicked, so ultra resonant.

Fender American Deluxe HSS: I got this on sale, plus I had a 10 or 15% off coupon and a trade-in. I already had a MIM strat, so I thought I'd love the deluxe more. Turns out I play the MIM more often and better. Still a great guitar even tho it lives in its case.

Epiphone G1275 double neck. Jimmy Page told me to buy this guitar but he never comes around anymore.

I think we all have a stash of pedals that don't quite make it on the board:

Boss CE5
EH Small Clone
MXR 10 band EQ
Digitech flange
Boss DS1
Ibanez TS9+
Behringer tuner pedal (POS Do Not Buy)
Boss AW3

Re: G.A.S. sins... greed

Regrets ... selling my Vibro Champ. The multitiude of guitars I have had over the years (or now) that I thought I wanted, or more erroneously thought would help me sound better or play better. Fingers.

Re: G.A.S. sins... greed

The T Rex Mudhoney is one I rolled the dice on and won. Imagine turning up your amp to the point where it almost explodes. That's the only way I can describe the pedal.
It's a dual function OD/Fuzz, and the OD is OK, but the Fuzz highgain thing it does is magical.

Another fun pedal is the Electroharmonix Q-Tron. It's squawky and downright fun to use for riffs that need something, but you don't know exactly what.

Turds? Pretty much everything I've paid less than $200 for.....sounds gearsnobbish but it's kinda true.

Re: G.A.S. sins... greed

I just bought an Exotic BB Preamp because I liked the one my boss has (and I love Andy Timmons' tone). However, I have found that in my particular application (guitars stashed in cases in the closet, pedalbaord and amp in the self-storage place across town) that the BB sounds exactly like my cheap, modded SD-1. So, why did I buy the BB?

I have a Phase 90 on my pedalboard - it's there because of The Police's "Hole in My Life" and pretty much all of "Frampton Comes Alive" - but I don't use it much.

Other than that I don't really have any superfluous gear. Two Teles - one SC and one HB, tweaked to my liking and for maximum versatility. Homemade pedalboard filled with non-boutique (even cheapo) pedals, again tweaked to my liking. The only "booteek" thing in sight is the aforementioned BB PReamp. Homemade amp made of used/surplus parts, with a 13-watt power rating that can in no way be considered overkill.

Regrets? The Yamaha multi-processor rack stuff I bought in the 80's thinking it would improve upon my pedals - and having to replace those pedals on eBay once I regained my senses. Selling my old Marshall 4010 combo. Buying the 2203 1/4 stack that preceded the 4010, and was truly the definition of overkill.

Re: G.A.S. sins... greed

Boss PH-3 Phase shifter pedal. Did I think I was going to be the next david gilmour & be able to make something audible with this effect or something? man.. totally unused & a waste - got my money back though.

An Envelope Filter (auto wah)

What the F?

I had a VOX Wah, what the devil did I need an envelope filter for?

I ran out and bought a phaser after I heard "Are You Gonna Go My Way" the first time, only to find out that it was a flanger in the song, not a phaser
