G&L Legacy Guitars By Leo = Awesome!!

I was out and about today all over the place here in town. I decided to stop by a music store that I haven't been in in ages it seems. They really had some cool stuff in there now, and I played some really good guitars.

I picked up and played some Ibanez's. Peavey's, etc, and then I picked up a G&L Legacy. Now I've never been a big Strat kinda guy, but holy crap man....what a great guitar that was. It was a USA mad G&L Legacy guitars by Leo model...not one of the Tribute ones. I picked that thing up and started playing it and it was just soooooo comfortable feeling and playing. The neck was just so smooth feeling. It was setup very well and played like butter. I really liked the radius on it. I don't know what it was, but it felt like it was probably a 12" radius like Les Pauls. I just felt at home on it. The neck shape was kind of thick. It was somewhat like a Les Paul, but not really....kind of hard to explain. It's almost like it was somewhere between a 50's neck and a slim taper neck. Maybe it was what the call a C profile or whatever? I don't know much about Strat type guitars. Anyways, the thing just resonated like crazy. The strings were about half ass dead, but it still sounded great unplugged. I never did plug it in, but I sure did like it unplugged.

I think they were asking $1199 for it, but I can't remember. They had about four to six of them ranging in price from $999 to $1199. It was a great guitar.

Anyways, I don't really know what the point of this thread was. I guess I just wanted to say I played a really great guitar today and was smitten with it. It was exactly like this one.

Oh yeah....I've played G&L's before in the past, but it's been awhile. I guess I just forgot how great they are/were. I loved the bridge on it. It didn't bother me like most Fender's bridges do.

Nice.... I love mine. They are completely different in feel to Fender Strats IMO... probably down to the trem? But I;ve had a few Fenders and it never worked out, I'd never sell this though

also, this one had a big neck like a 50's LP... really fat sounding guitar although NOT very resonant. Sold it a while back...

That's what I was thinking as well. I really liked the neck on it too.

I've noticed that there is alot of variation with the neck size and profiles with G&Ls... if you find one that feels great you gotta bag it! My white blonde is "just" right for me, the blue one had a really BIG neck and my old ASAT was great profile but too narrow at the nut!

Re: G&L Legacy Guitars By Leo = Awesome!!

The store I worked at had several, but their Southlake branch had sever s-500s. I went there fully planning on a 2 minute trip to pick up a case and stayed for 2 hours playing all the G&Ls. If I could find an ASAT in the right price range, it'd be over. I've not once played one that I didn't like. They're completely different beasts than Fender. But you gotta remember what Leo said, "With Fender I set out to build the first solid body electric, with G&L, I set out to build the best".

Re: G&L Legacy Guitars By Leo = Awesome!!

I was convinced that I'd stick with the Strat Plus that I A/B'd with a G&L Legacy, but the Legacy won, and I still love it. It out-Fendered the Fender...

G&L's, are the best! I've played G&L's for so long that when I pick up a guitar made by any other manufacturer it just feels wrong.

Thanks for the GAS guys!

The only G& L I ever played was a really trashed out Legacy at a pawn shop. The pots were scratchy and the strings were rusty, but the tone was out of this world!

Re: G&L Legacy Guitars By Leo = Awesome!!

Nice axe! I just recently found out in a book G&L stands for George & Leo as Leo teamed up with George Fullerton after leaving music man to start the G&L line.

Re: G&L Legacy Guitars By Leo = Awesome!!

Now that you can buy G&L no one should be buying Fender anymore. Everything about G&L guitars are better in every way possible.

Re: G&L Legacy Guitars By Leo = Awesome!!

So... does that G&L Legacy now live at Jolly's house?
lol....No, it doesn't. I just don't think I'd play it enough to justify it's purchase. Maybe one day. You just never know.

Re: G&L Legacy Guitars By Leo = Awesome!!

I've been gassing for one of these for years.
Someday, I will be joining the club.

Re: G&L Legacy Guitars By Leo = Awesome!!

G&L's are GREAT guitars. I spent some serious time with an S-500 in a local shop over the weekend, and it's everything I wish most strats were right off the rack. I think my next guitar is going to be one of those or an Invader. Even the Tribute models are still pretty good, better than an MIM Fender, IMO.

Sssssssh! Not so Loud!!!!

Us G&L lovers LIKE being a cult!!!!

I sold my 1960 Strat back in 1990 due to financial reasons. When I finally went shopping for a guitar to replace it, it was a Legacy that caught my eye. Twenty minutes later, I walked out of the store with it. I now own 15 G&Ls, and I don't miss the Strat much at all.

The G&L Legacy-bodied guitars, including the S-500, Legacy Special and Comanche offer the right improvements over the Strat design; yet they still keep the vintage flavor. They offer great value for the money, too.

So please delete this thread, and we'll just keep this "our little secret".
