hey i was wondering if anyone could fill me in on what these are and their tonal qualities. What is the difference between MFD pups and regular tele or strat single coils? They dont give much info on them other than that they are the last modifications Leo made to the pickup design on his classic models.

Re: g&l magnetic field design pups

I have only used the original jumbo MFD's in the ASAT (now ASAT Special). It reminded me of a cross between a good Tele lead pickup and a hi fi P90 tone at the bridge, and a hi fi P90 tone at the neck. If you learn to use the tone control, then they are excellent. They can sound a bit brittle at times, so again learn to tame the treble. I liked them a lot, but got rid of the ASAT because the neck was too skinny for me. I also played an old F100, and the HBs in that guitar were very clear and warm. Sorry I can't help with the ASAT Classic pickups or Strat-style.
