G&L owners, is this typical?

Well I got my G&L from ebay. The neck back tapers from baseball bat size near the neck joint to pretty thin down by the nut. Is this typical of G&L neck shapes? Mine was made in '97. I'm not so sure I like it.

G&L' offers quite a few different neck options - I had an ASAT with a neck similar to the neck your describing - didn't work for me all that well - I have a #4 neck on my Legacy deluxe - similar to a vintage "C" strat neck but wider at the nut than a standard strat (or a gibson) - I had to try a few G&L's out before I found the neck shape I liked best.

The ASAT Deluxe I just bought has the 12" radius and measures 1 5/8" at the nut....they're calling the #1 right now. It's a pretty well balanced neck with regard to where it begins at the neck joint and where it ends up at the other end.

Out of curiousity, what does you neck measure at the nut?

I mean neck back profile, just so we are on the same page. How do you measure that?

Re: G&L owners, is this typical?

That's one area where G&L is strange. They've had so many different neck profiles, that it's a bit scary buying them, sight unseen. I've bought about 3 G&L's, and I really drill them with questions first, because I want to know EXACTLY what the profile is. From the sound of it, it doesn't sound like you're digging it, so just aquire the missing trem arm, write up a great description, and pass it along......or find a guy with a Fender and swap'em. I'd try and get the seller to fork over some dough for neglecting to send you the trem and not mentioning any dings.

We were definititely on different pages. Beyond cutting out a 12" radius out of a sheet of notebook paper (which I did to make sure I had received a #1 neck), I'm not sure to nail down a profile.
