G&L Tribute ASAT Special...any experience?

Hey boys and girls,

I've been trolling around (like fishing, not like being an online a$$hat;)) the internet trying to figure out how to spend some tax refund dollars come February. I like the idea of getting a Tele of some kind, but I've also been thinking about a P-90 guitar. The G&L Tribute Series ASAT Special...

"features jumbo single-coil Magnetic Field Design™ pickups, each with a narrow bobbin aperture for a coil which is shallow yet wide. In this regard, an MFD™ jumbo single coil is similar to a P-90 or Jazzmaster® pickup, yet the MFD principle provides a punchier bottom end and brighter top end sparkling with harmonics."

I've played ASATs and like them, but does anyone have any experience with these pickups? How do they REALLY compare to P-90s?

Thanks in advance!

Jumbo MFD single coils are neither P90s nor hot Telecaster/Broadcaster types. Their sound lies somewhere in between. Thus, depending on playing techniques, they yield a broad variety of tones. Through overdriven valve amplification, these pickups are meaty. The clean tones are on the dark side of Tele. You might want to string up with something bright then use the tone pot to tame things a little.

I kinda thought that the answer would be something like that. Guess I'll just have to hunt around for one in stock at a GC and give it a listen in person. Thanks for the info! :fing2:
