G-major vs. Line 6 for effects/delays/etc???

Okay so which one, the gmajor rack unit or the line6 coloured rack units / stomp boxes, have better delays and effects for big professional rigs?

Apples and oranges, IMO.

Do you need/want to use MIDI switching? How about line level interfaces? Are you using a series or parallel loop?

If you don't know and don't care about MIDI, go with the Line 6 stompers. Even if they don't sound as good (and I don't know whether they do or not), you'll be happy to avoid the brain damage of setting up a foot controller.

The one thing about the L6 pedals is that they were very unhappy in my Soldano's loop (but they sounded great with my Koch Multitone).

the line6 pedals sound awesome. if you want to build a rack rig, you gotta learn the ins and outs of midi and what it can do.

What's cool about the Line 6 stuff is that they're so versatile, and they go out of their way to capture the classics, rather than just their version of chorus, flange, phase etc. Good rackmount setups with Roland, TC, Lexicon, and Rocktron units usually sound spacier in the reverbs and delays, and also have the ability to route FX and channels together, with only 1 button. For modulation FX like vibe, phase, flange, I still like the sound when plugged into the front of the amp, not in the loop.
Suprisingly, the Green L6 Delay actually gets pretty good ambient sounds like verb and delay, despite the fact they're on the floor, not in a rack. Ideally, I'd like to have all my modulation fx on the floor, and have a G Major and rackmounted L6 Delay in the FX loop, in a small rack. The only reason I don't is because I'd rather use either a pedalboard OR a rack and controller. Using all of that is a serious hassle to gig with.

Re: G-major vs. Line 6 for effects/delays/etc???

I own both a Gmajor and line 6 filter pro. The gmajor sounds better all around and less colored tone. The Gmajor is more transparent. The Gmajor has also given me alot of problems and the Line 6 has not. Line 6 probably has more features per each individual efect but the Gmajor is better quality fx. If you can take a chance on getting one that doesnt have to be sent back to the factory for repairs of either the knobs or display or the dsp. Then I would say get the gmajor but its Russian roulette. I have spent 250 locally to fix mine and its still not working half the time.

Well the line6 stuff sounds promising, is there any difference between rack and pedal versions of their modellers? (the coloured ones that is)

Re: G-major vs. Line 6 for effects/delays/etc???

I really like the sound of the line 6 stuff. Saying that, I still have not found to date, any delay that sounds as good as my Chandler. I would deffinently pick the Line 6 delay stuff over the G-major.

What problems did you have? wasn't it under warranty?
And also, - Does anyone else have any G-Major reliability issues?
