G string tuning problem

I've got a problem with the G string on my homebrew Les Paul.
Sometimes it goes out of tune when I bend, but it always goes flat, not sharp. I changed the strings, and while the new ones are better it still goes slightly flat (they are properly stretched). I even swapped the tuners for the E and G to see if that was the problem, but it wasn't. I think it has to do with the nut, but how do I fix it? I'm using a Stew Mac Slipstone nut (delrin).

Re: G string tuning problem

Sounds like the string may be catching in the nut after bends. Widening the nut slots may help, polishing them may help, or a new nut may be in order...

The issue could also be at the bridge, though... I´d need more info to say for sure...

Thanks Zerb.
I was wondering if it was still catching in the nut slot. It used to catch in there and go sharp, but I filed the slot, and now it goes flat after a couple of bends.
What do you want to know about the bridge?

Re: G string tuning problem

I´d have to look at he bridge contact surfaces closely, not really something that can be done over the net ;)

Re: G string tuning problem

Are you sure the string is seating right in the tailpiece?

Re: G string tuning problem

It seems like 80% of LP's have problems with the G string. Its the nut bro! Listen to Zerbs suggestions.

Thanks everyone. I figured it was the nut, but wanted to get someone else's opinion.
Time to break out the file again and get this thing fixed!
