Does anybody knows which guitars and pickups Gary Moore was using in "Still got the blues" ?

I just bought the album and I fell in love with the guitar tone. All the songs are great!!

The album has 5 bonus tracks and are also amazing...

Re: Gary Moore setup

Take a visit to www.gary-moore.com/ which will give you the rundown.

Its been awhile since I looked at the site but I'm 99% sure the album was cut with the Peter Green LP with its original PAFs. He does use other Pauls as well and is known to also use Tom Holmes pups. Anyway, from what I remember the website will tell you all you need to know.
I agree - there is some ripping stuff on the CD!

Yeah, most of it was tracked with his 59 with PAFs... and he used the original version Marshall Guv'nor pedal to cook his sound...

This is the Greenie Les Paul

Note the wear & tear if you saw it in a shop (without knowing its history) you might pass but this guitar has played on more classic tracks than almost any guitar!!:notworthy

Re: Gary Moore setup

Thanks for all the info and the quick answers!

This is the guitar that was used in the recording of the album according with Moore's web page.

<<<<Specs.
Carved book matched maple top on mahogany back and neck, single cutaway, rosewood fingerboard, 2 P.A.F. humbucking pickup's, ( covers removed, previously ), 2 volume controls, 2 tone controls, Grover machine heads added,

This is the guitar that was used on the "Still Got the Blues" album, and nearly all of every album since then >>>>

It was an incredible sound what he achived with this guitar. But I guess his fingers had done a very important job, not only the guitar.

Re: Gary Moore setup

I thought that tone was cool...but a little to saturated and over the top. Just personal taste I guess, but I feel that Gary Moore tends to overplay. Also, since this is the same guitar that Peter Green played on so many Fleetwood Mac and John Mayall tracks, it's a great example of how unimportant the actual guitar, pickups, etc. are to finding your own signature sound! Because Green and Moore both sound radically differant from each other on the exact same guitar. The only cut I know of by Peter Green that gets close to that saturated tone you'll hear on Still Got the Blues is the tone he used on SUPERNATURAL when Peter was still playing with John Mayall. THAT cut is highly recommended. Amazing tone, amazing phrasing, maturity and restraint. Restraint is as important as anything in developing a deep, signature tone. It's like making love...you want to hold back a little...to make it last. You don't want to give it all you've got in the first minute or it'll be over to soon! Restraint is super important, I think. I agree Lew. No doubt about it, Gary can rip but I think its fair to say he's perhaps not the most tasteful player. Having said that, when I'm in the right mood STGTB is just awesome!

Time to listen to "Blues for Greeny" mate.

Re: Gary Moore setup

Yes, may be he tends to overplay. Ussualy I don't like any shredding monster (except for Satriani). So for me players like Gary Moore are close to the limit of what a fast guitar player should be. Or said in another way, what a guitar player playing fast should be (he isn't allways playing fast!!!)

So depending on the mood I feel more like hearing him or not. When I am it is plenty satisfying.

And when i am not, well... I just change the disc. ;)
