GAS Alert: Tech 21 Trademark 60!

I'm really about to pull the trigger here. I'm about to sell my Vox Valvetronix AD30, plus whatever else isn't bolted to the floor, and maybe a lung or kidney, to satisfy this GAS Attack.

I've played this amp quite a bit in stores, and almost bought it but cheaped out at the last second and went for the Vox. But that little voice has been nagging me for months now: "You got the wrong amp, dumba$$. You got the wrong amp!"

Don't get me wrong - the Vox is the finest of the many modeling amps I've used/owned. You can't beat it's tone-to-price ratio. But I'm just not feeling the love.

Am I nuts? Anyone else ever fall in love with the Trademark 60?

Doesn't matter. It's probably too late to stop myself anyways.

Re: GAS Alert: Tech 21 Trademark 60!

sounds like a plan to me...Tech 21 does make some nice stuff!

Re: GAS Alert: Tech 21 Trademark 60!

Your original post sounds just like one I could have posted. I wanted the Tech 21, got the AD30. The Vox is a fine amp but I keep waiting for the problems to happen. Then I was afraid to give up the effects, until I realized I don't use them that much anyway!!!!:smack: It's only a matter of time (and money) before I pull off the switch.

Re: GAS Alert: Tech 21 Trademark 60!

My finger is quivering... on the trigger... got to pull it... must pull it.... soon!

I hear you, smauk43. The effects, while really nice, are kinda useless in real-life I find. Except the reverb. I prefer pedals.

You will not regret getting the TM60............ask Simon F. I talked him into one a while back & he loves it.

So much to the point that he's gonna give me his Marshall Jubilee just for turning him on to it!!!! :D

Right Simon...My Brother?????? :laugh2:

Re: GAS Alert: Tech 21 Trademark 60!

Didn't I hear somewhere that Les Paul plays through one at his weekly gig?
He's old and maybe his hearing is failing, but then again he IS Les Paul. Good enough for him, good enough for me.

Re: GAS Alert: Tech 21 Trademark 60!

No problem buddy....

Check Harmony Central too....they pop up over there every now & then.

If you can get a newer one for a decent price, grab that....the footswitch is better. It's 3 switches in a row....the older ones had the 3 in a triangle shape on a smallish pedal....very easy to hit more than one switch at a time.

The Jubilee AND the JMP 2204!! Shall I throw in the Les Pauls too? :laugh2:

The TM60 is a great amp. Here's the review I posted when I got mine:

Re: GAS Alert: Tech 21 Trademark 60!

That's a good read Simon F. I've also been a non stop fiddler with the Valvetronix. Too much fiddling, not enough practicing. I might just keep the Vox, for times when I can't resist the fiddling urge. But then again I should get rid of it, I'm a tweak-a-holic!:smack:

Re: GAS Alert: Tech 21 Trademark 60!

The Vox is a great amp! If you can, keep it. I just can't justify having two amps, plus a Pod Xt for recording. And so the Vox has to go...

I just bought a Trademark 60 off of ebay! It's one the newer ones with Celestion speakers and the better footswitch. It should arrive on Tuesday or so, and I am VERY excited! The seller seems like a great guy - somebody who should be hanging out here. If he isn't already...

Simon, thanks for the link. That is a great review.

Can't wait to start rocking with my new amp!!!!

Re: GAS Alert: Tech 21 Trademark 60!

Great for you!! Now after you get it, let me know how it compares to the Vox.

It ROCKS.

It arrived today, and I just can't stop grinning. I love this amp. LOVE IT.

Now of course, this is the honeymoon. We'll really know about two weeks from now. But I can tell already - this thing is here to stay.

Rich, organic tone. That's the simplest description I can come up with.

Overtones, feedback, crunch, spank, shimmer, and other good stuff. The Vox had its fair share of these qualities, but this amp just is on another level. The controls are SO powerful. I think it will take a long time to really get to know the amp, but it took about 10 seconds to dial two righteous tones on both channels. And I'm loving the post-gain boost. It's such a different effect that using my clean boost pedal before the amp - I don't think I've ever played an amp with a post-gain boost. Nice.

If anyone else is considering one of these bad boys: GO FOR IT.

They rock. :laugh2:

FWIW it reminds me very much of the Rivera Thirty-Twelve 1x12 30W combo I used to have. The two channels have a similar personality to the two channels on that Rivera amp.

i haven't thought about that amp in a long time. I can't believe that I ever convinced myself that I should sell it... Oh well, it doesn't matter. This Tech 21 amp sure fills its place!!!!

Re: GAS Alert: Tech 21 Trademark 60!

Thanks for the review, just gives me more gas than a super grande burrito!! Glad you are pleased with it.

Re: GAS Alert: Tech 21 Trademark 60!

Update: I finally put this amp through its paces in a loud band situation. I played with two different bands yesterday, pretty different styles, and one particularly loud drummer. My Trademark 60 faced off against a JCM 800 head and 4x12 cab in one of the groups that another guitar palyer was using.

Everyone thought I was the one plugged into the big 4x12 and Marshall. When I shook my head and pointed to the unassuming, homely-looking little 1x12 combo, there were many various exclamations of disbelief and amazement.

This amp is my secret weapon. I guess that's the best, shortest way to sum it up.

I would say that everyone should own one, but I'd like to keep the amp indie and underground. Mine, all mine.

Some people have mentioned hthat they think Channel 2 is hard to dial in the way they like. Try backing the gain way off, to maybe 10 o'clock. Then use a clean boost pedal to push the amp back into thick crunch. Pedal off: punchy, aggressive Tom Morello-type riff tone. Pedal on: big, fat, thick crunch. I kind of the like the way the amp responds to a clean boost in front better than cranking the gain up. YMMV!
