Been listening to Ryan Adams new album and watched him on iTunes festival, and I'm totally digging his tone he gets with a princeton. Please talk me from the ledge!! I have this urge to just go out and find one now and the sad thing is I have a guitar shop with probably some blackface and silverface ones ready to be played! I swear this guitar playing is worse than crack, Im going to be in the poor house soon.

Princeton is a great a pa. I'm not even a fender guy.

Re: GAS attack!! Please talk me from the ledge...

Great, a guy who isn't a fender guy likes them! Your not helping Aceman, you need to tell me how they are crappy and people are going to laugh at me with how bad my tone will suck.

I'm going to see Jim Campilongo in about 80 minutes. I've seen him 6 times since July, and he's been amazing every time. He gets everything from twangy country to smoky jazz to freekin' Live At Leeds power chords out of a '59 Tele and a silver face Princeton Reverb.

You'll get no help from me.

"Gas Attack". "Talk me down..." Pfththt! Don't be stupid.

Yeah you came to the wrong place. I have a '67 blackface and it's possibly the best sounding amplifier I have ever heard.

Im trying to figure out why i have always overlooked the princeton. Now I'm doing the gear juggling dance in my head to figure out how i can swing buying one without spending too much. And also trying to figure out how I can fake the wife out so i don't get the stare of death.

Vintage blackface go for a premium over early silverface (early to mid 70s) but to be honest, I don't think there's much difference. Also don't overlook the champ/vibro champ series. Smaller and less powerful but the Vibro Champ I pawned in college was the "one that got away".

Early 70s Bassman heads are nice too and are not insanely expensive.

Fenders of that era are unbeatable. Everyone has their favorite model or format (mine is the princeton) but they are all awesome. You will not regret it, just be prepared to find a good amp tech to take care of it as needed.

Re: GAS attack!! Please talk me from the ledge...

Another piece of trivia - the original Mesa Boogie MK 1 amp was essentially a hot rodded Princeton.

Re: GAS attack!! Please talk me from the ledge...

I played a 66 a few months ago that still haunts me, despite the fact that I own a nice 60's Fender already. Do it.

Re: GAS attack!! Please talk me from the ledge...

The problem is my gear buying is out of hand lately, bought a 65 super reverb after christmas and just plunked down for a martin om21. Never had a good acoustic and finally got one, you guys aren't doing a very good job of talking me out of this btw. I have a Blues jr and a egnater rebel 30 I've had for a while. Don't need the rebel since i have the super and the princeton would be somewhat of an equivalent replacement for the bj wattage wise. heck i don't know maybe i need to compare princetons to deluxes. Is there much tonally different between deluxes and princetons to you guys ears? more headroom with a deluxe maybe?

Re: GAS attack!! Please talk me from the ledge...

The Princeton is one of my favorite amps... although I can't really afford an $800 practice amp (I need headroom).

Re: GAS attack!! Please talk me from the ledge...

The deluxe has more headroom, more bass and treble, and is a little louder.
They are both cool as hell and you should own both at some point!
And Jim Campilongo is the bomb.

ya just looked him up on youtube, Im going to have to dig a little deeper into his stuff. Really like what I've heard so far and watched an interview with him. Seems like a really cool guy.
