Gave up on the Hughes & Kettner Grandmeister...for now

Oops...posted this in the guitar forum by accident. Was a long day:laughing:

I'm going to forget about the Grandmeister for now. For the stuff I would have to sell to buy it, the used market isn't too hot, and I think I'd rather wait and see if this amp is a hit or a dud before I blow that kind of dough on one. I'll wait until it starts flooding the used market and then I'll check it out. In the meantime, I have a line on a Carvin X60B as a backup to my Univox. Just need it for the clean channel which is a pretty powerful and nice sounding channel. If the distortion can be dialed in as well, then that's a plus. Wish I had the dough for that 6505+ I just put in another thread. Had to get another synth for my setup and I'm still looking at either trying to have a Floyd put in the Jesuscaster or getting something like an Agile Hawker with a Floyd, blocking the trem and adding a D-Tuna, but that would be a bit down the road. For now I'm just going to use my Floyded Les Paul, which I really don't wanna take to gigs, but...

I've played one.

I did not find a bad sound in there. It's not even that the sounds are all 'ok' but not amazing. No. They sound GREAT. Clear, with enough personality to make it its own thing but also so much versatility.
It's hard for me not to get excited about it. Whether I played low-gain blues or the heaviest metal, it had it in there and it was easy to dial in. Incredible.

Ah yeah; I don't think there is a valve amp on the planet with this much gain on Earth. Crazy stuff. It really did let the guitar shine through too.

For what you want, maybe the Tubemeister36 or 18 would be a better choice. The Grandmeister could probably cook breakfast for you though.
