Gear question

OK, so I saw this kid playing his electric in the park today, and had the most awesome little toy. I stopped and asked him about it, then like I genius I walked off without asking what it was called.

About the size of a large cell phone, you plug your guitar into it with a normal patch cord, has different emulators and effects, and a headphone jack. Looked like the slickest thing to carry around in a gig bag to practice in public, but am not finding the exact thing on Musicians Friend or online and live about an hour from the closest Guitar Center. Anybody know what I'm talking about?

The last time I bought anything that wasn't a stompbox was an ART Ecc about 20yrs ago, so let's assume I'm not the most effects-savvy guy on here

Re: Gear question

What color was it? Did he have it plugged into a laptop, tablet, or phone?

Re: Gear question

Like this at all?

BAZINGA. Now I know what to Google! Thank you, Sir

...and that particular one appears to be well over a decade old, which would explain why I found exactly nothing on my own. The website has the new ones, which are so small I have to wonder how user-friendly it is, and this thing, a fully customizable one that operates more like a traditional stompbox. This looks beyond handy, am anxious to take a look at GC.

I had one years ago
comes with distortion and chorus I think

they have bass and metal versions as well

Re: Gear question

I like a Pocket POD for on-the-go headphone playing. Lots of flexibility and good sound.

Re: Gear question

Pocket Pod & Boss Br80 come first to mind followed by zoom g3 which is bigger. I guess all these work on AA battery?

For something really simple there is the vox amplug ac30, that thing sounds awesome through headphones.

Re: Gear question

Pocket POD works on batteries, two AA I think.

I also have an old Kork ToneWorks piece that runs on batteries and sounds really good but is a double-wide pedal.

Re: Gear question

Actually there are some apps on iphone/pad that have the amp modelling & effects thing, iRig & BIAS is something i vaguely remember reading about.

Re: Gear question

I've got a Line 6 Sonic Port, which connects to the dock connector on an iOS device and acts as a soundcard, working with an app that runs on the Apple device. It's pretty cool, with all the modeling power on tap.
