Gear Score! W00T! (PICS)

Went out to the thrift store looking for some last-minute Halloween stuff yesterday, and brought home this Silvertone electric organ for $25.

It took a little bit of doing. Apparently electric organs weren't designed to fit in Honda Civics. I borrowed a friend's truck and brought it home. Got it down in my basement before my parent's get home from vacation. Took the truck back and grabbed my car, get home and my parent's are in the driveway unloading the van! CRAP!

So I play it cool and just kinda wait for the time to tell them. Well, Mom got ahead of me and went down to the basement to do some laundry.

"WHAT THE HECK! KEN! WHAT IS THIS?!"
"....uhhh..."
"When were you going to tell me about this?"
"....right about now."
"........"
"It works perfectly, it just needs to be cleaned up a little bit."
"......you had better tell your father before he comes down here and sees it."

Well, let's just say it went over better with Dad than it did with Mom and now I have a vintage electric organ for $25. I'm not trained on piano or organ at all but I'm starting to pick it up a little bit. LOVING IT!

Hehe, awesome man, wow thats alotta keys, you are a braver man than me to try and master that thing!

Re: Gear Score! W00T! (PICS)

Wow that looks identical to what I had at my grammar school. No one ever used it, I don't even know if it worked or not. nice score Ken! I've been wanting to learn piano myself, and I'm trying to find a decent score. Maybe I'll check out some pawn shops around thanksgiving time.

Haha sweet! Can you plug it into your amp/pedals and stuff or is it all self-contained?

BTW how did mom react when she heard it was $25? Did she calm down or what?

I bought it expecting it to be self-contained, but when we were moving it I noticed that under the keyboard is a 1/4" out and a speaker killswitch. Depending on how it sounds plugged in, I may have to bring it to school and have our pianist play it at a basketball game or something just for some fun.

My parents really don't care how I spend my money because they know the majority of it is being saved right now. However, I have been told that it is leaving the house with me.

Aw dude thats killer plug it into an amp with an overdrive, chorus, trem, and some other effects and go nuts! One of my friends does that with a cheap Casio and gets some way cooler sounds that he wouldn't have gotten otherwise.

my grandparents used to have one f those, an old organ (probable not the same brand). those thigns rock!

Well, it better be considering all the money you put into that thing! :) Congradulations! Sounds like a lot of fun!

Some of those old organs had killer tone.

Remember now, its traditional to learn the first three chords of Louie, Louie first. :laugh2:

Re: Gear Score! W00T! (PICS)

I still need to hook it up to an external amplifier...the internal speakers break up a bit before I'd like them to. A good full-range powered speaker will hopefully take care of that.

It's no Hammond, but I can get a convincing rotary sound out of it. There's definitely something rotating inside of it. Combining some of the settings (i.e. Violin and oboe on the top set of keys) gives some cool stuff.

Overall I'm very happy with it...I'm just ticked because I'm so busy this week and next that I won't be able to play with it very much!

Nice, like Forbes said, gonna be a bit of a trick mastering that one, some crazy amount of pedals and keys, good luck!

Cool score WOOT!
