I have a recently purchased (used) a Digitech Genesis 3 (amp emulator similar to POD 2.0) and an Epi Galaxie 10 Combo, a Class A single channel amp that doesn't have an EFX Loop, does have B-M-T, one 12AY7 PreAmp tube, one 6L6 Power tube. With the B-M-T of the amp all flat, as those on the Genesis. I started off with the Guitar Vol at 5, Genesis Gain at 5, Level at 5, Output Level at 7; the amp Gain at 6, Level at 5.
When I hooked my guitar into the Genesis 3 into my amp (Guitar Input, no EFX Loop), getting just the right level out of the amp seems difficult... impossible, actually. It seemed that no matter what adjustments I made to the Genesis ("Amp") Gain, Level and Overall Emulator Output Level and/or Gain and Level on the ("real") Amp; that when I turned the Guitar's Volume, up there was a sudden transition from no amplification to WAY too much!
I tried all kinds of combinations (I think), but with no luck. The other thing was that at some settings, the note was un-amplified if I struck it lightly, too loud if I struck it just a little harder (all with my thumb, btw).
Is this sensitivity and difficulty in finding the right settings common to all emulators? What is the "secret"?
