Genesis Mr.Browney

Hello everyone,

Has anyone tried the Genesis Mr.Browney Pickup?

If you have what are your views on the pickup.

I hear it's one very nice sweet sounding pickup.

I guess they are custom wound by Joey Palmiery.

I also hear he's very good at it.

I thinking about getting one. It's suppose to be a dead
ringer for the early EVH tone ,exspecaily their Demo and
1st album. But it can do what ever tone you want as well.

Amazing. Who has heard and played this amazing pickup?

Thank,

Jfar

Re: Genesis Mr.Browney

I actually have one in my G&L Skyhawk "superstrat". I love it to death! I play it through a boutique version of a Marshall JTM45 and it sounds amazing. Harmonics abound and tons of clarity and articulation (which is what Eddie loved about the Gibson PAF in the first place). It even sounds good clean! It definitely has the traditional PAF vibe to it and that's what drew me to it in the first place. Joey seemed like a pretty nice guy to me and the construction of it was very solid.

Re: Genesis Mr.Browney

Thanks chris,

Actually to be honest with you. I do have a Mr.Browney ( the very first prototype )in a Nuno Bettencourt Ibanez Prototype (Rare ).

I kept asking Joey when he will have Alnico II's in stk?

Few months later he got back to me stating he now has them.
Joey said he can custom wind one for me. So I told him what
I was looking for in a pickup. Tone wise & spec's. ( off of EVH
60's modify ES335 pickup he use in the early day of his career )

This was great I never had anyone do a custom pickup wound to my
spec's before. I did buy custom shop ones. But never one made
for me only.

Tone reference is EVH 1st album & their 1st demo ( Gene simmons )

Like a Tone Guru Joey is , He started working on it. took a while.

Should it it be F- space or not. But that would affect the tone.
But we both agreed that it should stay at the traditional spacing.

The output. But still want it to stay around 8.5 to 9 k max.
potted or not etc,

I do have SD custom shop EVH's in my Guitars . But there was something
still lacking.

after a few months of R&D , Joey finally came up with the Prototype
and send it to me for analysis.

After receiving Mr.Browney ( The name I tag it and Joey loved it )
I started my anaylsis . after two weeks or so . I came to a conclusion
that this is one of the best pickups I ever played. ( That includes comparing
it to a Tom Holmes PAFs.) I told Joey this is It!. Then I put the 1st review
about it in Harmony Central. Joey is really proud of this pickup & he should
be. He does great work. I played all his other pickups , "The hot rock " which
by the way is also an excellent pickup.

I too love the sonic tone signature of Mr.Browney and love playing it to death.
by the reveiws on Harmony Central, I guess lot's of other players loves it as well.
The neat thing about it is It doesn't cost an arm or a leg to get one
and it's customwound. If other people want to hear what it's sound
like. I tell them to listen to EVH 1st album ( for the dirty sound )
and any Larry Carlton Earlyer Album ( for the Clean sound.)

But Mr.B has a touch more tone & magic.

Joey will have sound bites soon. I will contribute as well.

Again I have spend alot of money on different pickups in my
25 year or more of playing and Mr.B is deffinately one of the best.

It just doesn't sound like any other after market pickup.
It is a different animal. all I can say if you love the tone of SD Custom shop
EVH, You'll like this one even better. But please keep in mind, this is not just
a one trick pony. It's capable of doing whatever tone your fingers want
to do. this a very versatile pickup.

Sorry, Got carry away. I guess I just love this pick up that much.
All you guy's reading this . You owe it to yourself to check this pickup
out and have at least one in your guitars. I promise you guy's will
love it. but if not, you can keep on searching for that lengendary tone.

The choice is yours. :smokin:

I definitely agree with you. Out of respect for Mr. Duncan, I try not to mention my pickup choices very often on these forums. This will be one of the few times I ever say anything about this.

My dream axe is done. I can't possibly ask for better versatility or tone. I use my G&L Skyhawk for just about everything nowadays. It's an H-S-S combination with a volume, tone and blend pot. The pickups I use (and swear by... to my grave) are the Genesis "Mr. Browney" - Wagner Custom Rewinds "SR" - Wagner Custom Rewinds "SR". These pickups balance perfectly and Jim Wagner and Joey P. are definitely at the very top when it comes to amazing pickups. I get SRV type chime, vintage Les Paul type warm, sweet singing tones, straight up EVH type bite and clarity and a killer single coil clean rhythm tone. I've played a lot of other pups and researched just about them all and these guys just haven't been topped to my ears yet. I'm usually extremely persistant when it comes to tone and if something isn't right I'll look for something even better, but now it's so good, I've just stopped looking. I can't imagine a better sounding set around, I'm that amazed.

I think I paid more for the pups than I did the actual guitar, but it was definitely worth it! :D

Re: Genesis Mr.Browney

I'm glad you like Mr.B.

And it sounds like you found an awesome pickup combination.
I wish other players on this site had a chance to hear Mr, B.

Someday soon I suppose. But more than likely by word of mouth
& ear's.

That fine with me. Look how long it took the SD custom shop EVH
to catch on and I was the second reviewer on H.C.

Hey Craig, Dirty Hairy. You turn me on to the Splawn Quick Rod.
check the Genesis Mr. Browney. You'll love it with the Splawn!!!

Re: Genesis Mr.Browney

Does anybody out there have any mr.Browney sound clips? seems difficult to obtain anything on the web, besides some reviews on HC. Dying to hear one.
