George L cable

So I finally got around after years of playing with cheap cables. I just never looked beyond that point... old school I guess. I had 2 GL's made yesterday and I couldn't believe the difference. I know alot of us are always talkin about amps, pickups and magnets. But what about the cable ? These cables rock ! I immediately heard the difference between cheap and best.

Someone slap me for ignoring the importance of good cable... ****! :eyecrazy:

Re: George L cable

Cables are EXTREMELY important.

George L's are great. Good bright, pure tone. A little weak on the low end, but still a great cable.

If you like George L's, but want a bit more mids and low end, Canare GS6 are excellent too. Made very, very well.

Re: George L cable

I agree - George L's are great for pedal boards - I use them exclusively.

However, when I tried their longer cables, I was not so happy. The sound is great, but they are too stiff and tend to twist up too easily. I've set these aside for studio use, where I don't move around so much. Planet Waves are my choice for guitar cables.

Re: George L cable

I've been using George Ls for several years with no problems. The next time I rebuild my board (very soon) I will try the Core-X for comparison. I suspect that they will have the clarity of the GLs with a little fuller bottom.

Re: George L cable

I like the George-L's and have used them for the last few years. I recently started using the Lava Cable solderless system (http://www.lavacable.com/lava.html) on my pedal board. I like those, too. The plugs are a bit smaller (esp. the right angle ones--so they take up less space on the board) and the cable is a bit more flexible. The cost is about the same, either way. Both sound good (I think the Lava is a bit more balanced and the ground connection seems more robust).

Re: George L cable

Yeah I noticed them being brighter in tone. As I don't want to lose to much of my mids and low end has me thinking to use the George L cable for my pedals, I think the plugs are like 6 bucks. Then using the Canare GS6 or Planetwave outside the chain. Man ! there's so many to choose from and I'm so far behind on this. But, I'm getting closer and closer to where I should of been years ago. This place has got my tone juices flowing ! My wife said since I got on this forum... that I have spent acouple of hundred dollars. LOL !

Agree with you RW on the twisting, it's quit annoying.

Re: George L cable

i love george L's cable but i dont love the solderless ends

Re: George L cable

Monster Cable's Rock are nice so far. I noticed a big improvement in phase, and I like that they have a lifetime warranty.

Bright and weak low end would be my description of George L's. I hate the things. For the last couple years I've been using Monster which is pretty decent cable if it is a bit pricey. My pedal board is wired with Planet Waves. If you don't mind doing a little soldering the Mogami cable I recently acquired with Neutrik connectors is amazing.

My pedal board has been hooked up now for several years with all George L..Things are crisp, clean, and clear with the George Ls....My guitar cable is one of Trace's(Voodoo Amps) cables....It's a big thick sucker, with big fat ends on it...It wasn't cheap, but it's my favorite guitar cable for quite sometime now also!

Re: George L cable

Yeah, gotta love those GL's. I also noticed an immediate improvement in clarity and tone!

Re: George L cable

Is the Mogami cable stiff?

It's about the same as the Monster Performer 500 I use for my main cable. The tone is very different however. The Monster is full sounding with slightly hyped highs, while the Mogami is unbelievably neutral. Imagine your guitar plugged directly into your amp with no cable between if that were possible.

i use mogami's too and that's their description to a T:)

Re: George L cable

Another improvement. I looped 3 pedals with the GL's shortening my effect chain and wow another eye opener ! Seriously someone slap me for not bothering with good cable. Now, with the great advice I'm gonna get 2 more cables for guitar and amp. Great choices here to go by.

Thx for such great info. !

Re: George L cable

I went through my George L's phase a couple of years ago, but I soon tired of the glassy top end messing with my overdriven tones. I switched over to Core X2 cables and it's the best my rig has ever sounded.

Cheers.................................. wahwah
