George Lynch + LP Junior? What? Is this the same world?

OK so he's still a bad-ass on an LP Junior as well. What a surprise...

Dude this is so unorthodox. I freaked love it. Going into outer space on a one chord vamp. He just doesn't give a crap.

I just like how this has that "don't give a crap about anything" feel to it.

George should probably put his shirt back on, but you're right - he can still play, and he doesn't give a **** what we think.
Personally, I've been digging his stuff of late with Project Infidelika.
George and ex-Fishbone Angelo Moore make a potent pair - great writing, great playing.

I saw this vid a little while back....I love that he plays with such authority. But his technique is very unorthodox. It’s pretty much the opposite of everything I’ve learned technique-wise!! It works for him though.
Now that I think about it, a lot of the greats have “wrong” technique.

As far as the shirt thing....I’m pretty sure Lynch is about 60 years old here...I hope I look half that good at 60.

Edit: according to wiki he’s 63 y/o
Born in September 1954. So he is probably 62 in this video.

IMO it sounds like someone cloned Jimi and Holdsworth. Very cool.

Yeah, he has Putin boobs. So what. :nana:

I love LP juniors.

I think his first quality guitar was a LP Junior. George is always cool, of course, although I think he gets into trouble by using too little gain these days. To my ears he is audibly struggling to make the guitar do his bidding in this clip.

To my ears, he's got PLENTY of gain, and it sounds like his guitar is easily doing everything he wants it to do. (I only wish I was as competent).

However, if you are saying that using a lot of gain is a way for a guitarist to hide his inadequacies/inabilities...or that you have to work a lot harder to sound good when playing clean, then I totally agree with you.

I don't think it is quite that simple. It is undeniable, however, that gain adds compression, which is necessary to achieve the smoothness required of certain styles. George always had a smooth legato style back in his heyday, and one that definitely was suited to high-gain tones. However, he wasn't a spring chicken when Dokken made it big, and I suspect that he has tried to revert back to more of a 70s type of rig. It just might be that I wish he would do something more akin to what he used to, but for me, it isn't quite working, and I'd argue that it isn't quite working for him either. Just after 1:15, for instance, he is trying to do something that just isn't coming through using that rig.

He is still great, but to me it sounds like he is basing some gear choices on ideology rather than his ears. Like you, I still wish that I was as competent, though!

He played a LP Std for a tune when I saw him the other night. Everything else was his ESP strat

Re: George Lynch + LP Junior? What? Is this the same world?

The LP Std might be the "George" LP. the 2nd guitar in this vid - https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=59&v=rXmMRz9jyaA

Yeah, G has changed his style some, it's still G, but he uses less gain and a lot of modulation (phase 90 or Univibe) now days.

It wasn't that one, it was this one (https://i.ytimg.com/vi/TvKDu5m2PIU/maxresdefault.jpg) BUT that is super cool and good to note hah you made me second guess that for a bit, but the burst was darker on the edges and as you can see from this photo, a Gibby.

His tone was pretty straight when I saw him, subtle delay and any modulation was subtle as well.
