Georgina - electric slide melody

Re: Georgina - electric slide melody

Sorry Kirk but the links do not seem to work. Always look forward to your playing.

Re: Georgina - electric slide melody

Magnificent and deeply beautiful as always, Kirk. As a fellow Aussie, I grew up listening to your playing with various artists and your solo work, along with guys like Mark Punch, Ross Hannaford and later Ian Moss. I've also just rediscovered Norman Roue from Band of Light, whose "Total Union" album has just been re-released after 34 years! A very different type of slide player to yourself, but equally inspirational. Lovely to hear your playing again my friend.

Re: Georgina - electric slide melody

Thanks again, guys.

Geoff, nice to hear from you. You mention some good friends of mine and also a couple of players I've admired over the years but have yet to meet, like Ross and Norman. I've played quite a few sessions with Mark Punch ... he has the wonderful knack of playing exactly the right thing at exactly the right the moment. He's pure genious.

Cheers,

Kirk

Re: Georgina - electric slide melody

Yeah, Mark is an amazing player. I saw him only a few months ago, working with Renee. I've been working with Daryl Braithwaite for the last 8 years or so, and we did a corporate gig double bill with Renee, and there was Mark. We had a great chat afterwards, and he started talking about Lonnie Mack and it was like someone had lit a fire inside him! Mossy used to come and see my band in the 90's, The Truth, and got up and played with us a few times. Hannaford should be declared National Heritage! I've never met Norman Roue, in fact I'm unaware of anything he's done since Band of Light. You gotta love Aussie guitar players! All the best mate.

Regards, Geoff.

Kirk, fine playing as always.

Are you Aussie's familiar with Dai Pritchard? He just joined Rose Tattoo, smoking slide player.

Geoff I swung by your site as well, fantastic stuff!

Hey thanks for that Wattage. Yeah, Dai's got big shoes to fill replacing the late great Pete Wells, but he's good for the job. Got your myspace add too buddy.

Cheers.............Geoff.

That's a beautiful tune . . . I'd love to learn to play slide like that. Are you in a funny tuning, or standard for that?

Cool deal. Yeah Pete is one of my all time guitar heroes, I am a huge Tatts fan and I was very sad when he died. I always figured I'd get to Australia someday and get Pete to ink the Tatts roses logo on me and talk some slide guitar playing. Dai sounds great, there is some fantastic video of him on the web, big shoes no doubt but an admirable replacement I think. The new Tatts album is fantastic if you haven't heard it yet.

Re: Georgina - electric slide melody

Very nice! Slide guitar just hits your heart in a certain way hey.....And your playing is so easy to listen to

Do you have a band kirk? And where do you guys play?

Also, do you do any non-slide stuff?

Just checked out your website....man you've played on a lot of stuff! awesome. What was it like working with Keith Urban?

Re: Georgina - electric slide melody

Hi, l_e.

Keith Urban is an old friend. He used to come and listen to my Sydney band 'The Train' often, way back when, when he was just a kid. He's always had a ton of talent and been a very cool dude. I guess that was his second or third album I played on, before he left Oz to go to Nashville. Another old pal who did the same -- move to Nashville to further his career -- is Tommy Emmanuel. I've known and played with him since about 1975 when I first moved to Australia from Canada. He was a teen prodigy back then.

I don't get out too much these days to play, just once or twice a month in and around Brisbane with a very tight little lineup called 'The Smokin' Crawdads'. The other guitarist, Mick Martin, is as good as they get, so it's a pleasure for me to join them when they get a 5 piece gig.

GuitarStv ... I play exclusively in dropped D tuning, just the bass string down to D. I find it the best of both worlds. If you're interested, I did a DVD on it. http://www.bottleneckguitar.com is where to find out more.
