Getting old sticker gunk off of your amp

The last owner of my VHT 2x12 put stickers all over it, and I'm attempting to take them off now. Does anyone have a good method for removing the adhesive residue?

I know that there are products like Goo Gone out there, but that stuff is grosser than the adhesive.

I have never understood why people sticker their amps.

But since you ask, use lighter fluid/naphtha.

Buy Goo Gone. It smells like orange citrus, but has the petroleum distillate needed to break down the sticker glue. Lighter fluid works too.

depending on the adhesive, baby oil (i.e. mineral oil) might work

eucalyptus oil is the magic formula for getting sticker goo off - smells good, all natural and safe to use on tolex etc, but i dont know how easy that is to get in the states.

Lighter fluid/naptha. Dan Erlewine recommends it for cleaning really gooey vintage guitars, so it's not going to mess up your tolex. I keep one of those yellow squeeze bottles of Ronsonol in my workshop at all times.

I always have a can of naptha around. Great stuff. But I'm just not sure it wouldn't penetrate the Tolex and dissolve the adhesive that is supposed to be there on the underside

Goo Gone, Naphtha, or rubbing alcohol. Any of those will break down the adhesive, and not harm the tolex.

+1

Goo gone is remarkable stuff for getting that crap off of things.

WD40. Works great. Many people don't realize that Wd40 was first used as a cleaner not a lubricant.
