Getting Pickups Rewound

I have a Peavey Hp Special and love the way this guitar plays. Lately I've been thinking that I want to change the pickups but it's not the kind of guitar you can just drop any pickup into because of the routing. I was wondering if anyone knows how much the custom shop charges to rewind a pickup to different specs. Also, I'm looking for a suggestion on what pickup to get them rewound as. The stock pickups have A5 mags and I want a PAF sound so I was thinking a set of 59's might sound good. It's a basswood body with a carved maple top. Any thoughts?

Re: Getting Pickups Rewound

I had trouble with SD pickups in my Parker - because of the way the body is routed (which is weird because high end Parkers use SD pickups, but if you own a low end one I they make it hard to upgrade to SD pickups).

I took tin snips and cut the feet into a triangle shape so they'd fit. Works great.

if what you have isn´t listed or you can´t find what you need, give `em a call, http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/custom-shop/terms-and-polic/

The original Parker Flys had custom Dimarzios in them, and for the first few years Parker stuck with Dimarzio for the most part. The triangular routing is a takeover from that era because Dimarzios have triangular feet. many ibanez Users have the same problem when upgrading, I just dremel the tabs to fit and drop the pickups in ;)

A standard humbucker (i.e. a Seymour Duncan), to send back and have rewound, costs about $85 and up. Not sure what kind of buckers are in your axe, but it might be more.

Cool, thanks for the info. Another problem I have is that the pickups are direct mounted to the body so if I dropped in a Duncan or Dimarzio it would have to be the same depth as the Peavey pickups. Tried some Alnico 2 Pros and they weren't I think the best option would be to get the stock pickups rewound. Any opinions on some good choices for a basswood guitar w/a maple top? I don't want a lot of mids because my amp has plenty.

Re: Getting Pickups Rewound

while on this subject, could I send any brand of pickup to be rewound by Seymour Duncan? or does it absolutely have to be a seymour duncan?

PM our resident winder, Zhang. I'm sure he'd take care of you for a reasonable price. Does great work.

SD will rewind any pickup by any manufacturer to either original or custom specs. A possible exception being EMG, Lawrences or other epoxy encased units. ;)
