GFS Pro-Tube humbuckers

Re: GFS Pro-Tube humbuckers

GFS humclunkers make me sad, i havent tried those particular ones, but they're pretty inconsistent product. i'm sure there have been some exceptions but by and large there just junk.

Huh. If that's true, that's kind of disappointing. I knew the price was probably too good to be true.

If anyone else has a different opinion, I'm still open to hear it. This particular set seems pretty interesting.

I've played a bunch of their PU's and don't find that true at all. I really like their Power Rails model.

Re: GFS Pro-Tube humbuckers

thats fine and im just giving out my experience, i bet though like i did when i ordered some gfs in 2008 ish all the same model , only 2 sounded similar one didn't work and the 4th had a weird chirp on the bridge attack. Just google gfs pick ups, junk, horror/ nightmare stories and bad customer service it all there in spades.

that being said it's your money do what you want thats cool, but if my advice can save you some pain in the as$ from a less than stellar product i say take it.

im totally down with saving dough, but getting on the phone waiting for 30 mins for a return conversation and mail order re-ship slip, is not my idea of saving money and or time.

Re: GFS Pro-Tube humbuckers

I bought a neck model to try in a semihollow guitar, next to a TV Jones Magna-Tron. The MT (which is "vintage" output) blew the lipstick HB out of the water in volume. I dropped the MT down, and pushed the lipstick to just under the strings, and they started to approach balanced.

That said, it didn't sound bad. It had the "chime" it promised. It's just hard to make a fair assessment when it seemed such low volume compared to anything else.

Re: GFS Pro-Tube humbuckers

I don't know that particular pickup but some of their pickups are great and priced low. I have a pair of their Fatbodies in one Tele and Lil Punchers in another. I think they are excellent pickups. I also like the mini liverpools.

Re: GFS Pro-Tube humbuckers

I had one of their regular lipstick tubes, it was bright and transparent but very weak. A humbucker in series might give more output but not much.

Re: GFS Pro-Tube humbuckers

I've tried most of their regular humbucking pickups. They're great.

Re: GFS Pro-Tube humbuckers

I've only tried their Mean 90, a Tele Fatbody, and a Tele neck pup (can't remember which one) and all have been excellent.

Re: GFS Pro-Tube humbuckers

In the process of getting a set of their Texas Specials single coils. Hoping they sound good. Until then........

That's a little disappointing to hear... guitarfetish claims they're "SUPER hot". Oh well, amps have volume knobs. I might still try them.
