GFS Wraparound Bridges?

I was looking at getting a TOM/ stop bar combo for my cheapo Strat project, but I thought to myself, given the goal was for low costs, why not use a wraparound bridge? GFS has too options, the Badass style and the Wilkinson model. Does anyone have any experience with these?

I'm leaning towards the Badass as it has more settings to tweak, but it is also a bit tall, which should be no trouble because the neck is bolt on. But I have also heard the Wilkinson has more tonez.

Re: GFS Wraparound Bridges?

That Wilkinson came stock on a Dillion semi-hollow that I have. The guitar sounds fine but I haven't installed any other bridge to compare it to. Between the grub screw adjustments behind the posts and the sliding adjustment for b and g, it intonates. Or, it's really close last I checked, anyway.

Personally, I hate the damned thing. It works fine but it looks like an cheap hunk of metal with a decent chrome job. Obviously that's nothing more than my personal opinion based on aesthetics. YMMV.

Re: GFS Wraparound Bridges?

That's why I was looking towards the Badass. I forgot to add in my original post that the tone sucking claims were my a few fellas from a cork sniffing thread.

The badass is a good, solid bridge. I really like mine.

I’ve never tried the Wilkinson, and I’m sure it’s fine, but I have to admit to not being crazy about the inability to tweak each string individually.

Re: GFS Wraparound Bridges?

Graptech makes some very nice wraparounds. The NW1 full adjustable came stock on my Godin Core. Also, the Schaller Signum is nice. Neither fits your budget project though. Both sell for north of $100.

What about a Strat hardtail style bridge?

Re: GFS Wraparound Bridges?

That is in fact what I am replacing.
If I was you, I'd look for the Graphtec String saver Saddles:

I've used'em in many occasiones, both in Tele and Strat hardtails, and they work flawlessly, both tonally and keeping strings from breaking at the saddle point.

The install the badass-style wraparound in a strat, you'll need to shim the neck with at least two 1-degree ones.

These work perfectly, keeping the whole surface contact, hence keeping the tonez intact.

I've used those before with great results in other builds, but given that they cost about half the original cost of the guitar, I don't think this would be the best place for them.

I purchases the Badass bridge and I'll let y'all know how it goes.
