Gibson 12/6 in the house!...

Allright bro's, it's here!..... initial thoughts....

Will take some getting used to, but lighter than I had thought!...(still don't think I'll be using it for more than a few songs!)...

This is one huge slab of mahogany!
Although the PAF's are going out in favor of SD SH6's on the six string, the twelve string requires a little more "thought"...not sure here...

Required both truss rods adjusted, but they are both "true" now...
Sets of strings for these are a little hard to come by, will just make up my own gauges anyway.

Oh, and "stringwinders"...forget it!.... :blackeye:

I do wish I could figure out how to post a full size pic of it, any ideas?

..just random first "impressions"

...one very happy........ :)

...oops, almost forgot....it's a '87!

1.)go to the nearest guitar center.

2.)Impress the clerks by plugging into the nearest marshall, and playing stairway to heaven approximately 100 times... the way it should be played :D

That looks pretty cool from your avatar... I recommend setting up a photobucket.com account

...that would be funny!....STH is one the few songs, that although I know note for note......I really don't want to ever play again....(I'll take an "enema" over playing this!) :laugh2:

SWEET!!! I knew it would get a Distortion set in the 6 string side...Hmm, what to do with that 12 string side?!? What about a Jazz set...that would sound nice, maybe even Seth's...

Either way iut looks killer...get to pohotbucket and post some bigger better pics!!!

Nice score bro, Im glad you got it.

BTW...How are things going for you right now? I hope you are well!

Be in touch bro

Best thing about this whole deal, was I drove to Austin to get it, and spent last night on 6th street checking out the Austin music scene.. very cool!...(or at least what I remember, got back to the hotel about 2:30 a.m.... :laugh2: )

Sweet!!!....I really decided to get a used one, instead of a new one based on the neck(s) can twist over time. The two that are on mine are perfectly straight, and its kinda hard to beat 18 yrs of "tension" for proving any "flaws".. or so I think....really haven't had much experience with these until now.... :)

Re: Gibson 12/6 in the house!...

wow, there used to be an epiphone one in a guitar shop here in town and I had a lot of fun setting it to the 12 string, but playing on the 6 string...gave a very vibey almost organ like sound out of it...was very cool...you need to try it Jeff! I"m fairly certain Page used that technique a couple of times

Re: Gibson 12/6 in the house!...

Nothin like killin a few brain cells and looking at musical equipment. I tried to blow that pic up Jeff (the one in your avitar), but it won't go much larger without fuzzing all out.

As for the pups....I think you should do something different than the distortion in the 6 string side. Custom/APH or Custom Jazz would sound sweet. As for the 12 string side....Antiquities all the way bro.

Re: Gibson 12/6 in the house!...

oh man.....i never even considered the possibilities of having completely different sounding pairs of pickups in a doubleneck. must.....fight.....GAS....

Re: Gibson 12/6 in the house!...

Okay, I just went from a Steinberger GAS to a 1275 GAS..... I always thought that that gave rise to knocking and pinging in your engine.... Very nice piece! Enjoy.
