So i have been hearing great things about this combo for a while and was just wondering if their worth the price? Im using alnico II pro's and like them but im open minded. :feedback:

Re: Gibson 57 Classic & Classic Plus

i was using that combo, its a good vintage vibe but the pickups were a little too dark and bassy for me. so i switched both out for alnico ii pros and i LOVE them. I think the alnico ii's are gonna stay in there. how the '57's will sound will depend on ur amp, fingers and ur guitar. what is ur set up?

Re: Gibson 57 Classic & Classic Plus

I used a Gibson LP standard. My amp is a Marshall DSL 100 half stack. I do sometimes boost the front of the amp with an Ibanez TS808

Re: Gibson 57 Classic & Classic Plus

ya i have a gibson LP classic runnin through a peavey valveking 112, which is a dark amp and guitar already so it did not help with the pickups. marshall speakers are pretty bright sounding so '57's might a good combo for it. they are VERY good pickups, nice and warm.

Re: Gibson 57 Classic & Classic Plus

I run a set in a Strat and love how they sound in it. They are great pickups in my book.

Re: Gibson 57 Classic & Classic Plus

There's a green sparkle metallic SG at my shop with two 57 classics and a 57+ in the bridge. That thing has perfect SG tone.

Re: Gibson 57 Classic & Classic Plus

The 57's, AIIp's, Pearly gates and Seth's are all very similar yet different. Not much help i know lol

Re: Gibson 57 Classic & Classic Plus

I personally like them alot. I prefer them over the PG set and the '59 set in my LP STD. The PG neck is superb though, I regret not keeping it around. The pg neck and '57 classic plus would be very tasty.

They do sound cool, I have a set in an SG.

Compared to the APII pups you already have, they will be more aggressive sounding, edgier, and more treble. They're quite the little buzzsaw (in a good way) for alnico 2 pups.

Re: Gibson 57 Classic & Classic Plus

I have the set in my LP Traditional. I love them. They seem a little hotter than the Burstbucker Pros or at least in the neck pos, and they have a nice warm woody sound. Fantastic pickup set. In my opinion the Burstbucker Pros are a juicer sounding version of those.

No gripes to speak of except that they can sound a little flat at times, hence the reason I like Burstbucker Pros better. They're good enough so I'm keeping them in. They're worth the cost. Don't put them too close to the strings and they will sound better sitting a little lower.

+1. I really liked em myself. I usually dont like AII bridge buckers but, I love the plus in the bridge.

Re: Gibson 57 Classic & Classic Plus

Got a set in a Epi SG Custom and while the bridge one is excellent sounding, the neck one is Mud City Limits. The both-on setting is excellent, though. Sounds like a 496R-498T set!

I'm changing the A2 for a A5... that should level things up.
