Well as some of you know from a couple of my earlier post, I favor alnico II pro's in my LP's but lately have been having this really big urge to try the Gibson '57 classic and classic plus combo. Well i ordered them yesterday and was just wondering what caps you guys use with them? I was thinking the same value Ive found to work with the alnico II pro's since they both have A2 mags? :onder:

Re: Gibson '57 Classic & Classic Plus

The 57's have a somewhat steely attack to them that the APH's don't have. Personally, I'd try 'em with your guitar as it stands, but you'll probably have to work the tone control on the bridge a bit.

Re: Gibson '57 Classic & Classic Plus

i had a '57 classic in the neck of my LP classic and i HATED IT! the tone was beautiful, but the pickup was just overly bassy. Because it was overly bassy, it was super muddy. I had an A2pro in the bridge, and after my bad time with the '57 classic, i took it out and put the A2pro in the neck to go with the bridge one and Im very happy with them. So i dont know if i got a bad pickup or what.......but the '57 classics......not for me

I hear ya, brother!

I had to change the magnet to an A5 to make it balance with the Classic Plus on the bridge. Nothing else worked for me. Even then it just didn't deliver what I was aiming for. I guess the "Classic Gibson" sound was not appealing to me anymore.

Today that guitar has the following combo:

Neck: Duncan '59 bridge
Bridge: Duncan Custom 5

It delivers exactly the tone I was looking for, no ifs, no buts. I can play any type of music with that combo.

HTH,
