What's the differences between the gibson 57 classic and the Duncan Seth Lover??
Today I went to a guitar shop and found some 57's, but they are a little more expensive than the Duncan Seths
I'm about to get a pair of seths, but never tried those gibsons before.. are they similar to the Seths?
Thanks a lot

Re: Gibson 57 classic pickups

I like the 57's but I'd go with the Seth's. 57's have more bite but can be a little hollow in the bridge position. Seth's have smoother fuller midrange.

Re: Gibson 57 classic pickups

i agree. the 57's sound brighter and thinner than i would like, the seths are sweeter sounding thru the mids and highs

Re: Gibson 57 classic pickups

This is kind of related, but as a side note I'm wondering if there is much of an output difference between the 57 classic and the seths.

Re: Gibson 57 classic pickups

Besides what's been said......The Seths are clearer, while the 57's have a bit of 'hair' on the tone.

I'd buy the Duncans, and NEVER buy new Gibson pickups. If I bought some good Gibsons, like Burstbuckers, I'd get them used from a player that took them out of his Gibson. There's probably a lot of players on here that have Gibson pickups lying around.

I like Duncans and other boutique pickups in Gibsons, but I gotta admit....I found out by accident that a lot of Gibson pickups sound great in other guitars like Fenders and superstrats. If they sound harsh in a Gibson, they might add some attitude to an alder superstrat.

Thus, reffering to your pic GJ, we have EVH's first guitars and the brown sound.

Some between the Seth neck vs. the 57 (which is designed for either neck or bridge). Between the Seth bridge and 57, pretty much the same. The Seths may have slightly aged A2's in them, not sure.

I would've gotten the Seth anyways, since I prefer duncan and I think Gibson is a tad bit overpriced.
