Hello haven't been here in the forum a while.

Was wanting to know to those who may know.

What were the stock pickups in a 79 Les Paul Standard?

What would the modern Today equivalent be?

any suggestions would be great

Thanks

79 LP??? You mean like this 79 LP - owned since 1979:

T-tops. The latest word on th forum has been that he Jazz is similar to a T-top. T-top is a low-mid output a5 humbucker whatever it is like.

Honestly, nothing says Slash/Sweet Child like the T-Top in the neck of this guitar, so mine is more like an A2P IMO...

That said - I think T-tops are hit or miss. Some sound great, others meh. Like the one in the bridge of the above guitar. It just got old and meh.

They go on ebay for < 100

Nice guitar. Thanks for the info.

So were the stock T-Tops Bridge and Neck A5 or A2?

They were no Bridge/Neck, it was the same p'up for both positions.

About 7.5K of single polysol wire, short A5 magnet. They may ok in the neck position, but in the bridge position they sound shrill and anemic.

These p'ups were the main reason Larry DiMarzio got rich selling his "Super Distortion" p'up, if you ask me.

The best you can do with'em is to sell'em in E-bay to fund new, better p'ups for that guitar.

Reason I was asking. I was reading an article about Stone Temple Pilots and Dean Deleo's guitar rig.

He said his main guitar was a 79 les paul standard with stock pickups.
I've always liked his tone.

So I wonder if he is really using those Stock T-tops and gets the tone he does with them?

Anyone know if this is for certain?
