Gibson Flying V bridge

[80's_Metal]

This wonderful axe breaks more strings than any of my other guitars ever have.... Usually 1st and 5th strings.

I feel like I should take a file to it but I'm not sure how much I can (or should) smooth it out, as I don't want to make it dull or twangy.

Is there a really good aftermarket approach I should consider first?

Or just file away? I don't even feel any burs, but they must be there.

I'm assuming they are breaking at the bridge saddles then??

Some 800 grit sandpaper is what is needed. File marks are a most likely cause for burrs in the first place.

get a good look at it under magnification and you'll see what to file/sand

Another option is to replace the saddles with some GraphTech ones.

I use abrasive cord in different diameters from stew mac to smooth,smoothing any small burs in saddle notches,or like already mentioned, Graf tech saddles are a great upgrade

Drag a cotton swab across the saddles and find the burr. Round over the notch with fine abrasive cord and then add a dab of Chapstick
