Gibson ga-5 opinions??

Anyone played this??

Seems really cool, all handwired, with high quality components...

The guy who sold me his bassman has an actual late 50s ga-5, and i love its tone... can this thing get me there??

A while back, I mentioned hearing about it, & some ppl here said they played it & it was disappointing. I never tried it, though.

How about the GA30R

Get a Trace Velocette, it's the same basic amp, just less expensive. :burnout:

For small watt handwired tube amps, I really like old amps like Supro, Valco, Oahu, National, magnatone etc made. These companies made them for Lap steels or gtrs. They're intensely cool and very reasonable. Check Ebay.

Yeah, there definitely are some cool old tiny amps out there... my problem is, i don't like ebay. Plus, with vintage gear, especially more obscure stuff like those you mention, you never really have a clue what you're getting... I'll make sure to check around at local shops, see if i can find any of those makes you mentioned... where i can actually go play them, and check to see how original they are and all that.

So, still no-one with firsthand experience??

thanks for the welcome back.... yeah, its been a while. The LP is great... still my favorite guitar i've ever played. I tend to take breaks from this place, though, b/c i'll go through phases where i JUST play guitar, or JUST play drums, or JUST play bassoon... but i'm back, at least for now. again, thanks for the welcome back!

Not exactly expert testimony, but I played one for ten minutes and thought it was awesome. Maybe it gets old fast, who knows.
