Gibson Les Paul Jr. anyone played one?

the guy who invented said:
Billy's Jr.s are old for sure (look close at the cover of this months GW).

Wattage...Killer pic bro, I really love that the other guy has the total 80's Hammer going on, yet you keep it real, slab of mahogany, and a P-90...that's all you really need!

strat_master...some people are missing a major part of your question. Real 50's and 60's Jr's will bring quite a bit of cash...$2000-$4000 is not uncommon, them you get into double cuts, specials, etc...and custom shop Jr, are not much better if at all! Keep this in mind, the Gibson Les Paul Faded Double Cutaway, is real slose to a double cutaway special (A Special is a 2 pickup Jr, and the double cutaway is self explanitory) and runs less that $700.00 new...it is a killer P-90 axe. Also, the new Gibson Les Paul Melody Maker, is very much a LP Jr...it just has a Melody Maker Headstock, these go for $450.00 new. These are 2 killer guitars, and the fact that they are so cheep is even better!!!

Hmm good point, how does the faded double cutaway fair? The red one on the website looks pretty darn cool! and its cheap!!!!! Possibly the second cheapest gibson guitar on the market at the moment!!!! One reason why i don't like the melody maker is the mounted wire jack. Also how do the faded special LP (with humbuckers) fair as well? Anyone have experience with these axes?

Re: Gibson Les Paul Jr. anyone played one?

the faded double cuts are real cool...i like them, I would like the necks to be a bit fatter...but thats just me! The special with buckers is cool...but keep this in ind, there is NOTHING to the tone of a LP Jr. it is simply a slab of mahogany and either 1 or 2 p-90...NOT buckers, if you get the one with buckers you will be alot closer to SG tone than Jr...go with the P-90's, you will not regret it!!!

Re: Gibson Les Paul Jr. anyone played one?

I'm a huge fan of the LP Jr sound. The Special adds some versatility with the added neck pickup. That's my main axe. I think around 2000 they lightened the body and neck, and switched to the P-100 pickups instead of the P-90's. I bought 2 Specials from the late 90's, and they were both great. New list was around $1100 The first one I paid $850 at GC, and the second I got on clearance from Mars Music for $650 with a case. considering those prices they shouldn't be to bad on ebay. Btw the originals had a combo bridge tailpiece, that wasn't very adjustable. Later ones, except for custom shop reissues, had a tune-o-matic

Re: Gibson Les Paul Jr. anyone played one?

Personally, I'd go with a Hamer Studio with P90's instead of a LP Jr. Better quality, lower price.
