I am getting a Gibson Les Paul Junior double cut which has the bridge PUP only. so I want to add a P90 neck PUP. Any suggestions as to which SD pup to get?
The other thought I had was to add a neck humbucker (i am open to options)
thanks to all. kevin

NOTE: i just saw that gibson now makes a Gibson Les Paul Special DC with two pups. so if you would close this thread, thats the route to go, MUCH less work for about the same cash. (then i'll throw a couple SD pups in).
thanks everyone.

you are going to have a neck pup routed in the guitar? if you have a p90 in the bridge, id stick with a p90 in the neck.

Re: gibson les paul junior help needed.

Here are the three that I would recommend. Vintage P90, Antiquity P90, or the stacked P90. The vintage will have the most output out of those, the stack will be quiet but sound a bit different, and the Antiquity will have a smoother tone to it. The hot and custom ones have Ceramic magnets which won't sound as good for clean or low gain applications and at higher gain they only sound good to some people (I don't like them for anything). It all just depends on the sound you are going for, watch some demos so that you will get an idea of the sound before buying though.

dog ear or soapbar? assuming soapbar there are a fair number of options depending on what tones you are looking for. the stack is deeper than a typical p90 by maybe 1/4" and i dont love the sound. an antiquity soapbar with two a3 magnets would be sweet

Be wary of routing the neck position in the traditional shaped doublecut.

The neck joint is fragile with a shorter than normal glue joint, and a lot of unsupported neck. Typically if it does have a neck pickup, it is routed closer to the bridge than with a singlecut of the same configuration.

Do what John Lennon did and put a Charlie Christian in the neck.

A clear, yet full neck pickup to counter the rauchiness of the bridge P90 is a winning combo.

valuable info thanks. i'll run this idea by tony lauscher my local luthier in green bay and may even have him do the routing if i go with this.
