Gibson Pickup experts...????

Was wondering if, by description (camera broke this weekend) if you could help me Id a Gibson pickup I have. Searched the internet and couldn't find any pictures that matched, so maybe one of you could help.

Description:

Humbucker

Double Black

Single braded lead

12 Gold Screws holding bobbins

PAT 2,737,842 stamped on back of plate

Large "T" on center of each bobbin

Each bobbin wrapped with what looks like copper "Tape"

This pickup was in my Les Paul when I bought it from the dealer in 1978. It stayed in there until about 10years ago, when I replaced it with a SD SethB.

If I can get my camera working, I will add a couple of pictures, but hopefully one of you guys can tell me what it might be. I've heard of T TOPs, but none of the pictures i could find had the 12 gold screws. Did they make Dirty Fingers in 1978? The combination of 12 Gold screws and T have me really scratching my head.

Thanks

Re: Gibson Pickup experts...????

Could very well be a Dirty Fingers if Gibson used the same bobbins as the T Tops. I had an original myself, though the screws were nickel or whatever the material was. They weren't gold, I remember that much.

Re: Gibson Pickup experts...????

It's a 70's/early 80's Gibson Dirty Fingers Pickup.....some were gold..as per V's and Explorers at the time....GREAT Pickups...

Thanks Guys
It has to be 70s, because it was installed in my LPS when I bought it (in 1978).

Maybe, if I can't fall in love with the JB that is in the Baretta, I will see how the DF fells in there.
At least it's a start point.

Re: Gibson Pickup experts...????

Interesting that it came from the dealer with a dirty fingers. I thought they only were used on the E2 explorer. Is the neck pickup similar looking? Also do you know what kind of magnet is in this pickup, the dirty fingers was ceramic.

Re: Gibson Pickup experts...????

dirty Fingert ffrom a V2 or E2 is my call. Sweet pup! well, not sweet...you know what I mean!

Re: Gibson Pickup experts...????

The Neck pickup was/is a chrome covered pickup. It's has never been changed, so I'm guessing it is whatever Gibson was putting in the Les Paul in 78 (490?).
I always wanted a Tobacco Burst because of the Reverend, and after I got back from Germany, this LPS was hanging on the wall so I got it. The Bridge PU was either changed at the shop or maybe even Gibson installed it prior to shipping.
Years later when the Seth came out, I decided I wanted to have both PUs with covers (ala Gibbons Pearly Gates LP) and changed it out. The PU in question has been setting in a drawer for about 7 years and after I got the Baretta, and the JB thread, I decided to see what I could find out about this PU.
ErikH, how do you think this PU would work in the maple bodied Baretta?

BG00: Can you tell what kind of magnet is installed without taking the pu apart? Kind of hate to disturb anything that could cause any problems, making it inop.

Thanks

nope, but to see the end of the bar magnet, taking the cover and some of the tape off is all that's needed!

Re: Gibson Pickup experts...????

The Dirty Fingers is a powerful ceramic magnet pickup. I don't know what it would sound like in your Baretta to be honest. I never installed the one I had in mine. It was pretty good in my Les Paul though but it didn't stay in long, way too hot for me anymore.

Re: Gibson Pickup experts...????

To be honest, I don't think there really is one. The JB is hot, but not as thick and powerful.

Re: Gibson Pickup experts...????

Just for S&Gs, I will put it in and see what it sounds like. Will report back weither it is a go or no-go.
