Gibson SG 59 Neck and Custom 5 bridge big volume difference

Anybody got any ideas on why this would be happening and how to prevent it? I know the pickup outputs are substantially different (the custom 5 is 14+, the 59 is 8.2). the bridge pickup is much louder, and it's far lower too. I've put the neck one as high as it'll go and the bridge one as low as I can - making no difference. Also 90% sure it's not the joints as I've checked them.

welcome to the forum!

i had that same set in a sg years ago and i didnt have balance issues. do you have a multi meter? if so, with all the controls full up, put a short 1/4" cable in the output jack and measure the resistance you are getting in all three switch positions, should be 8k, 5.5k, 14k or something like that. let us know what you find

Thanks Jeremy. I don't but can get hold of one so I'll do that and let you know.

Hi Jeremy, getting 7.4, 4.8 and 13.55. close enough?

Typically the neck pickup is usually set lower but yeah that’s strange

What amp? What settings on the amp?
If it isn't a problem with the switch or the neck volume pot then the only other thing I can think of is if the amp responds really well to then bridge pickup's eq and not to the neck pickup?

Thanks guys - I've just looked up volume issues on a Katana and I'll get in and play around with the settings. If anybody has any other advice then that would be great, but thanks. Sounds like it's not the pots.

i usually have my neck pup set flush or just below the ring and, especially on sgs, the bridge pup pretty high. those readings are fine
