Hi, I'm considering a used Gibson SG Faded, I think it's from 2008 or 07. I haven't tryied it yet but I'd like to hear some experiences with this axe, it's a lot cheaper than a standard and it does not have the cool inlays, the paint job... frankly I like the woody thing. Maybe someone cuold tell me how are they compared to a tribute series.

I have a "metal" axe and a floyded axe, so now I'm looking for a rock/grunge axe simple and with good tone to use under mid gain and cleans.

Good / bad things, I'm listening folks.

I owned one for a little while. It was a solid axe and didn't play bad, it always just seemed a little dull tonewise. It wasn't bad, it just never jumped out and said 'hey listen to me' I had an alnicoII pro and a DMZ super distortion in the bridge at different points.

I just sold mine. I miss it, but I made a little profit by doing it, and almost paid for my new ML. If I had not already had two great SGs, I never would have sold it. I thought it was a great guitar, and the prices are right. I got my 2012 model for $467 out the door brand new from Guitar Center, and sold it for $550 in mint condition. Lots of bang for those kinds of bucks...and after owning that guitar, I think the 490R and T are my favorite set of Gibson pickups...at least in an SG.

How'd you get it for $467 and was it the Guitar Center in West Hollywood? I really want an SG and I personally really like the SG Faded Specials. I like the thinner finish, and I feel like it lets the instrument breathe more, and how there is no binding. I don't want binding (for now) on a Gibson because I have yet to learn how to re-fret a guitar with those binding "nibs".

I have no frigging clue how I got it for that cheap. I walked in to the Pasadena Guitar Center get some strings and it was sitting there marked at $429.99. Brand new, not a return, not B stock, no shop floor wear, nothing. Brand spanking new. When I went to check out, two mangers had to approve it. They seemed a bit puzzled, but didn't try to put up any roadblocks. I bought it just to resell, but I sort of fell in love with it along the way, and didn't put much effort into pursuing the sale. I had pretty much decided to keep it when someone e-mailed out of the blue via an older Craigslist ad. It was hard finally forking over the guitar when someone showed up with the cash, but paying for an ML was the inspiration to go ahead with it.

Go check out the SG Faded Specials which are Guiitar Center exclusives. I believe they're under the $500.00 mark. I tried one out and they're not that bad. They have 2 Volume and 1 Tone knob though , which probably explains the low price, along with a wrap around bridge instead of the standard tune-o-matic. But, it's not everyday you're going to get a Gibson SG for that price either.

wow great prices over there!!!, in this country you can get them for about a thounsand dollars used :(.

The one I'm considering It's from 06 BTW, I'm told it's a thick neck... I like that, I hate those wimpy Ibanez necks.

www.musiciansfriend.com is also selling the gibson sg specials too, since they're a affiliate of guitar center. You might want to take a look on there and see if you can get one. I'm sure they do overseas delivery.

yes they do, but when you add up shipping and local taxes it ends up way over a grand anyways

Like most here I had one. They are a great investment in the states if you buy used. Buy for $450 sell for $550 if you are lucky. There are always a ton on Ebay though I don't know how much out of pocket you'd be factoring intl shipping.

I liked mine. A real USA-made Gibson with buckers. Not sure why I sold it. Probably to fund some gas or another lol.

I LOVE my SG faded.
Bought it used in 2008.
I believe it is a 2006 or '07.
Unlike most of the fadeds, mine has a one piece body.
I replaced the stock pick ups with a set of Duncan A2Ps, and never looked back. Saying that, the stock pu's were pretty good.
