Can you guys give me the pros and cons/ expierances with this guitar? I have only tried it once at sam ash for a ver short period of time and it wasn't in good condition somoene pushed the bridge pickup in somehow and I didn't get to plug into a decent amp. The price seems pretty nice for a Gibson. I also like the cherry faded finish. Of course the pick up would be changed to seymours, so besides that I would like to know about this guitars sound.
Thanks in advanced

Oddly enough, I actually like these ones, for some reason, they seem to have a little of a mid-range "honk" to them that I like (no other SG's do this to my knowledge), even when you play it acoustically. For the price it's a good Gibson. Playing wise, it felt fine to me, easy to play, pretty responsive.

Some Duncan's certainly wouldn't hurt. The only other thing you'd need to do is GET RID OF THOSE CRAPPY KLUSON PEGS and replace them with Grovers, Schallers, Spurzels or ANY good tuner.

The other key of course is listening to it through a good amp (Marshall's, Boogie's, Traynor's and many botique amps seem to bring out the best in this kind of guitar, not too keen on the Fenders though, new Deluxe's w/ overdrive excepted). A solid state amp will NEVER do these justice.

Thanks for the reply, I just realized about the tuners. If I get this guitar they would diffently be part of the mods. Oh, and would I have to drill into the headstock to change the tuners to schallers.

Differences:

faded finish
fatter neck
bridge pickups is warmer and fuller with less output
price is lower
ebony fretboard
poor quality control on the fretboard

How is that? Can you tell me what is bad about the fret board?

The biggest complaint is that the frets feel like they go beyond the fretboard. I've found this to be true as well. Not every one has thsi problem.

Indeed. Play a few before you go with one. Some of them come with badly-dressed frets, but the good ones I've played have been great.

I think a lot of it has to do with the dealer. GC puts out the stinkers in this line, but the smaller, more local stores have really good ones.

I see, thanks for clearing that up for me!

Ah, I was planning on having this local shop order it for me if I decide on buying this guitar. They are good people and all ways set the action, striaghten the neck if it is crooked, and all that stuff before you take it home. They try not to sell you a dud! Thanks for the addition.
