Fender never acted to protect it, I think because originally it was so distinctive they figured they didn't need to.

That makes sense because I have an Epiphone S-210 "Batwing" Stratocaster. It's actually kinda cool.

As for Fender. Nop. They'd kill every strat-builder out there. Schecter, Suhr, Anderson, Fuji. Too many to list.

Not aware of any lawsuit, the Edwards LPs are not officially sold in the US, probably Japanese market only. Yes, you can order one directly from Japan, but you won't find a new one in a store in the US that I know of. There are FGNs new in the US, probably just hasn't hit the bit G's radar yet.

I don't think it was a lawsuit, I don't think Gibson has any grounds to sue on Japanese only models, only if they are sold in the US. Having owned a real LPC and an Edward's JS model, the Edwards is a lot of bang for the buck. Just sayin'...

I love MIJ Les Pauls; bought a number of 'em on the cheap years ago, before many US players knew how good they are.
Got a 70s Greco LPC, an 80s Burny LPC, two 90s Standards from Orville/OBG, and an early 2000s Edwards LPC.
Today a used Gibson LP Standard would cost more than I paid for all of them combined.

At $4,300 I would just buy a GIbson. They are nice but if you had to get rid of them I doubt it has the resale value of a real Les Paul.

Man, there is no guitar worth 4300 if you plan to actually play it IMO.
