Gibson threaded inserts

Is there a safe and easy way to remove the Gibson p90 inserts? Some are being really stubborn. I've tried screwing In a screw which then I pulled and twisted with pliers but all that happened was the screw twisted.

Re: Gibson threaded inserts

My LP Junior Special had the opposite problem. The splined inserts kept working loose. They had to be "persuaded" to stay put.

Re: Gibson threaded inserts

You can remove the bridge stud inserts by dropping a nut or other small metal thing down there, and screwing in the post. I wonder if you can scare up something small enough to get down the insert hole to try with these? (None of the P90 guitars I've had, have had inserts under them. None of them were "real" Gibsons though)

Re: Gibson threaded inserts

IMO, the only reason to remove the inserts would be damaged or stripped threads.

Re: Gibson threaded inserts

Thanks guys. The reasons I need to get some out is that the neck pickup ones on my LP DC are damaged so I want to take two from my LP 60's tribute to put in the DC. The 60's tribute has mini humbuckers now so I'm not using the inserts in that guitar. Also Gibson sent me two of those p90/mini hum mounting plates which I want to install in the 60's trib and I'm guessing the inserts won't be needed or even in the way once i install these plates.

Would you be able to get another one of those plates? If so, then you could just drill out the threads for clearance of the screws and use the plates.

Re: Gibson threaded inserts

The whole point of those metal plates is that you have the option to revert to P90s with no further modification.

Re: Gibson threaded inserts

Good vid, I like the way he says "tremolo" lol I could try getting more plates but afaik no one makes them, Gibson only sent me those as the guitar I've got should have had them leaving the factory and I had to send them a few messages just to get those.
